If you would like your Fediverse server to notice good human-curated accounts, you might want to follow my other account @FediFollows
FediFollows posts handpicked accounts every day on a particular topic or theme. If your server has at least one person following FediFollows, it will notice these handpicked accounts and they will start showing up in search results.
It won't eat up resources because an account's posts only appear if someone on your server then follows that account.

I'M NOT SAYING YOU SHOULD APPLY THEM BLINDLY.
The Fedinuke.txt list I went through at the time and didn't notice any domains I wouldn't agree with defederating from. But in general it's useful to look at the domains listed there.
Much harassment/racism/queerphobia comes from those instances, so looking at these lists is already a major step to reducing such things federating to your instance.

At least this seems to be true for post's and replies to post's of @rugby.
Can others confirm this?

You might want to defederate gup.pe as it is no longer controlled by any kind of Fediverse service.
Apart from any theoretical risks of hijacked accounts, the amount of non-functional accounts it displays in search results will be misleading your server's members.
