This is an open-letter to pretty much everyone on the #Fediverse.
Do not report content that you simply don't like.
That is abusing the content reporting system and wastes everyone's time.
It also results in me (as one of the admins) flagging your instance for us to basically reject any and all future abuse reports coming not just from you, but from your entire instance.
You have tools at your disposal.
Block/ mute a hash-tag if you don't like it.
Block/ mute a user if you don't like their posts.
Block/ mute US if you don't like the posts our users' make.
Configure your account to hide content that is marked/ flagged as "sensitive"/ "nsfw" by default.
But when you report something simply because you don't like it?
You look like a twat.

Hey #fediadmin #mastoadmin, I have this single IP address `23.24.204.107` who's pretending to be `Firefox/102.0` and consistently scrapes my instance's `/about/more`, `/about`, and `/api/v1/instance/domain_blocks` (despite the last always returning 404).
Is this a known offender? A known project perhaps, faking its user agent for dubious reasons? I'm tempted to just IP-block this out of spite.

New Patreon post - my Tuesday so far :) A mini Spanish user influx, brand new accounts not reading the rules, trending tags, and the masto software being as annoying as always.
TLDR: I spent the first two hours of my day, from 6:30, doing masto admin.

Fediverse admins, if you haven't already you might want to defederate the domain gup.pe
It's no longer controlled by the people who ran the Guppe groups service, so its accounts are all broken. It might be safest to just block the whole thing, and it would make your server's search results cleaner by excluding dead accounts.
(Guppe's domain was apparently bought against the will of its owners before it expired, due to some little-known clause in the domain's small print.)

And we're back. The servers on plan CX22 have been migrated to CX23 and the CX32 to CX33.
This will save us some (2.87 EUR, 14% on server costs), while keeping the same resources.
Looping in #MastoAdmin, #FediAdmin, #PixelAdmin, as lots of Fediverse instances run on Hetzner and might also want to benefit.

it was ultimately pretty easy, since im 
with netifrc going, i was finally pointed to by someone in the #gentoo irc to the default config examples for /etc/conf.d/net and with some followup i found out that i just had to symlink the service file for the ens18 device, and then do this:
config_ens18="dhcp 2605:a141:2219:1995::1/64"
(its not exactly a secret, this server is broadcasting an ip address thats kind of the point here lol) and i was able to restart the interface without it kicking me out of the ssh yay! anyway just some #akkoadmin #fediadmin #contabo #gentoo #netifrc #ipv6 tips as i did not find any of the documentation on this straightforward, especially since netifrc isn’t as in vogue as whatever systemd-based hunks of junk everyone is running now

I'm purposefully with @vmstan on vmst.io given my account is all over the place. But where might you direct people/orgs who want to focus just on those sorts of topics? I think a strong North American cohort on the instance would be important. And strong governance/reliability.
