@downey You're taking my suggestion way too far and adding to it things that I did not say or imply. I didn't say or imply that you needed my permission to do anything. If you imagine I even implied that, you are totally mistaken.
Absent a setting a poster could set when they make a post or in their profile that said their posts are set to auto purge, giving others notice that their interactions will result in phantom, orphaned replies and interactions, I said it would be nice if users who interact with posts that get deleted have a UI panel listing their now orphan replies (implying that they could delete those phantom replies that now have no context.)
I can have my social media interaction wish list and consent 101 would seem to include if you are going to have a conversation with someone, the other person has a right to know how that conversation may be used.
My wish list said "I think one option to be fair would be to create a post setting that marks a post with an icon or something warning people that it is subject to auto purging, giving people advance notice who then can decide to interact or not"

So, about this thread from @CiaraNi (https://mastodon.green/@CiaraNi/116452475774038820) about a fake wildlife image that's either AI-generated or Photoshopped: a few people in replies linked to the account that posted it, @Adrenochrome@mastodon.social. I checked in mod dashboard and I suspended this account just shy of *three years ago* for being a #PicSpam/viral repost bot.
When you come across these accounts, preemptively suspend them (if you are a mod/admin) or report them (if you are a regular user) and you'll save people a lot of headache.
