there's a specific fedi instance ending in .estate (you've probably seen it if you're a #mastoadmin or #fediadmin) that's been a hub for all sorts of problematic stuff. I have just sent an abuse report to:
- the domain registrar
- the nameserver operator, and
- the gTLD owner.
Many of these places will remove domains that violate their policies if alerted to them, so if you are a fedi admin and encounter a troll instance, I suggest reporting it to all those places.

We are blocking the malicious fake admin account posts on the fedi as we see them.
So far, most of the spam posts we've seen are coming from mastodon(dot)social and mas(dot)to. That doesn't mean that's the only source or that it's their fault, it's just what we've seen show up.
@Mastodon & @trumpet ... it kind of looks like old and inactive accounts are being used; would it be possible to disable / delete super old accounts?
It might also help to curb spam if you're willing to disable open signups temporarily? The volume is taxing mid-size instances terribly. Not pointing fingers, you're just the literal mastodons of the fedi.

Es gibt noch ein bis zwei Accounts, die noch nicht umgezogen sind.
Falls es nicht anders geht, werde ich die Instanz noch 24 bis 48 Stunden laufen lassen und dann mindestens in einen Schlummermodus versetzen.
Alle Accounts, die bereits umgezogen sind, werden morgen vormittag gelöscht, damit sie nicht unnötigen ActivityPub Traffic verursachen, der dann ins Nichts gehen würde.

SMTP relays for small self hosters seem to be getting harder to find.
❌ SendGrid killed their free tier, now only 60 days free.
❌ Mail2go wouldn't even accept my email address at sign-up.
❌😡 MailerSend rejected my account because I tried to send from a residential IP address (the whole point in needing a relay lol).
✅ Maileroo seems to have been simple so far, we'll see if it lasts 🤞
I'd happily pay a few quid a month for a SMTP relay if it was offered.
