(Tips for #MastoAdmin #FediAdmin : yeah, as we speak, there's quite a wave of "Mastodon Moderation" spam accounts. A good way to block them in a bunch is to go to Settings > Moderation > Accounts, change server location to "All", then search for accounts with "Mastodon", "Mastadon", "Support" in their name ; for all the accounts that match, tick the box at the left and suspend them with the upper right button. During such a wave, click "Search" every 5 or 10 minutes to refresh the list. You won't get them all, but you will get many, sometimes even before they spam.)

It seems that community.nodebb.org is under a DDoS attack at the moment. We have enabled CloudFlare's "under attack" mode which has stopped the attack but it also has the unfortunate side effect of blocking all incoming ActivityPub traffic as well.
Interesting side effect. Will continue to monitor.

So, I finally figured out what happened to all those followers who vanished.
Turns out someone blocked me from an entire instanceâjust because of an issue I had with one person. Thatâs not just petty, itâs straight-up over the top.
That block stops me from interacting with everyone on their server. Quite a bit on your community chose to follow and engage with me. And you just decided, unilaterally, one day for them that they shouldnât be allowed anymore?
Thatâs not moderation. Thatâs control. And itâs ridiculous.

Anyone else actively getting DDoS'd by Hetzner Falkenstein IPs or just me?
The temptation to ban AS24940 connections is strong, but I know some instances use Hetzner so I'd rather not.
They're all pretending to be actual user agents instead of the scrapers that they are.
I may need to look at installing Anubis or something but open to any other ideas in the meantime.

If you're running your own Fediverse server, it's important that people can contact you via the designated admin account.
Some servers have an admin profile saying "This account is unmonitored, send messages to @ xyz @ example.com", but most people don't read admin profiles and will miss this.
If you haven't got time to monitor your admin account, you can set it to email you when people mention or message the admin (on Mastodon this is at âïž Preferences > Email Notifications).
