Stair-stepping of character controller kinda works okay for now, doesn't have to be perfect

Here, I quickly put together this. As you can see, even with very basic crap, it immediately feels better than the sprite-based map.

Part of that is simply that I know 3D shaders much, much better than 2D canvas shaders.

I do want to figure out a good way to create a wave ripple at sea level procedurally. I don't have any clue how to go about that...

First actual playable prototype footage of our game! There’s a whole lot of wonk going on here, it’s really just fun so far. There’s physics are being refactored next (Pluralist has been obsessing over how wheels actually work), along with a more reliable camera system. For now it’s time for me to work on some elves. #godot #indiedev #gamedev

Working at integrating the map with a UI.

Turns out, the camera's "zoom" property zooms it relative to its own children as well, meaning I can't put UI "on the map" like I intended. Instead, I have to put the map "on the UI" with a subviewport.

I can't imagine any situation where I want UI mounted *on the camera* to be zoomed in and out when the camera's zoom changes. Like, if you zoom a real camera the timecode and battery indicator don't wander off...

Is this font too small for handhelds? (and also just in general)

I don't want to make decisions I'll regret if I need to scale it up later.

"Touch grass" they said. Well now you can. And you don't even have to go outside, because I just released my customizable Godot grass shader for free!
