Currently searching for relevant relays for the Speakeasy. The general ones are spammy and tbh, are less like... interested in courtesy.
Should just figure out how to set one up maybe.

To whom it may concern:
A friendica profile just got a follow request by the following URL:
https://mastodon.social/ap/users/115861991649032339
Supposedly by a profile that calls itself "Paul.S" and selfdefines as "Comedian/Artist in Berlin"
As of now there was no way to figure out the real profile handle on mastodon.social.
🤷
A new @iftas report brings insights from fediverse moderators, administrators, and community managers: worsening mod-to-user ratio, spam, burnout, lack of tools.
"Moderators are the backbone of a safer social web – but most are unpaid, under-supported, and under constant strain. If we want a future for decentralised platforms that respects user agency, civil speech, and community autonomy, we need to support the infrastructure that keeps it safe."

A thought from us on open registration...
We understand that open registration removes the overhead of having to approve like, every account. Buuuuut it also cuts way down on harassment, spam accounts, scam accounts. And tbh it lets you grow your instance (if that's your goal) at a rate you can sustain, right?
We operate on an invite only model, BC we are all busy and being a mod / admin takes work. But it also means we can keep up with mod stuffs. And better, we actually KNOW the ppl on our instance. They're not faceless ppl and we're not faceless mods.
So like... please consider closed / approval based registration, vet your users. It'll be a better time for all of us.
It has been nagging me a lot, but I finally decided to shut down my Pixelfed server.
There are several reasons. Here are the ones off the top of my mind.
Now, a question for all the sysads out there: what are the best practices you recommend before shutting the server down? I have a strong emotional attachment to the ~15 pictures and posts I have on my profile there.
What I am doing, so far:

No reflejos automáticos.

is there any way i can enable showing of what MRF rules i have enabled, but entirely hide display of my specific MRF simple rules? for whatever reason i don’t like the idea of having a full list of all the instances i’ve blocked just be easily browsable (plus i don’t have to show it for the purposes of letting other people know with certainty whether or not i block an instance they may interact with – i’m a single-user instance), but i know having MRF rule display completely hidden is very eyebrow-raising too (then there’s no way to tell if i might have RejectDeletes set up, which ftr i don’t, but i mean, the problem here is that you just have to take my word for it)
i know you can obscure which domains are affected by MRF simple rules, but that still shows a big list anyways, no? so not quite what i’m looking for

If you're running a public Fediverse server, it's really important you plan how you will shut it down gracefully, even if you have no intention of ever shutting down.
Graceful shutdowns mean your members can move accounts elsewhere, and don't lose their follows and followers. The absolute worst thing a server can do is suddenly disappear without warning.
Here's more info about how to plan a graceful Mastodon server closure:
