@Linux@mivatter.com instead of dumping misinformation into the Misskey hashtag you could maybe look at the subject matter first?

Sharkey released a version 2025.4.5 less than a week ago and their version numbering is based on what the equivalent level of features is in Misskey, not when Sharkey released the update. And they do backport important things from Misskey.

https://activitypub.software/TransFem-org/Sharkey/-/releases

Yes it does suck that they're missing out on a lot of features in Misskey and there has been definitely a lack of active development going on but no, it has not just been entirely left to rot for 9 months.

Also, what have you done to help? Did you speak a single word to the team about your concerns? Did you point out any security fixes that you consider urgent?

If you are running a Sharkey site, consider migrating to Misskey.

Why?

Sharkey was last updated in April 2025, meaning it relies on upstream Misskey code from nearly a full year ago. During that time, Misskey — like Mastodon — has implemented multiple security patches and bug fixes. Sharkey has not, making its current release, 2025.4.4, vulnerable.

Content warning:Content Warning: Fediblock, Politics, USPol

The Speakeasy has voted to pre-emptively defederate all known United States federal government domains due to their status as a rogue state, their wanton rights violations, their bigotry, and their use of official government channels for authoritarian propaganda.

In the interest of being good fedi citizens, we have shared our blocklist (split into six parts for ease of management; the list is 1300 entries long) at: speakeasy.bardicperspiration.c

We exemopted local and state sites; we may create a list for those later for those interested.

You are free to use or edit this as you like.

If you are going to use the bloclklist, please do make sure that your members understand that this is not a security fix. If the federal government wants to scrape public posts, it can do so pretty easily. This may prevent some future propaganda from showing up in someone's feed but honestly, it's meant to call out egregiously horrifying behavior by a state actor, not as a security measure.

We see this as a small action to show the world where we stand, in a way that we control, and we hope our fedi allies join us in our small act of protest.

(💜 Marielle) PSA to fedi admins and maintaners of public blocklists: if you need to have reciepts for administrative reasons, please consider avoiding archive.is, archive.ph, or archive.today, as all 3 of those domains were uncovered to use malicious code that used bandwidth from traffic to power a botnet of some sort.

Not to shame anyone, but I have tried to reach them a couple of times now.

mastodon.sdf.org is using Mastodon 4.1.25 which was end of life April 2025. They are nearly a full year out of support. 4.2.x ended support this month, which means mastodon.sdf.org is even older.

The current branch of Mastodon is 4.5.4. The current branch of Misskey is 2025.12.2.

Please update your site before you and your nearly 2,000 users get hacked. @SDF@mastodon.sdf.org

🚨 Mastodon 4.2.x is now end of life.

If your Mastodon site is using 4.2.x or older, the time to upgrade is now. You are no longer being protected or receiving security updates.

The current branch of Mastodon is 4.5.4. The current branch of Misskey, the alternative to Mastodon is 2025.12.2.

For anyone running a #gotosocial single user instance: GTS-HolMirDas (German for "get me that" or "fetch me that") might be interesting to you, if you want to fill your timeline with life. It fetches posts matching to hashtags you've set from the fediverse. For single-user instances this is great to see more new people and posts you otherwise never would have discovered.

Creating an app via the GTS settings panel did not work for me. But this did and it was really easy:

https://getauth.thms.uk/

You can also use the getauth tool for other apps like FediFetcher.

This may be a super common and known app, but I just installed it and I think it's great.

My little :gotosocial: server was running short of space, so I thought remote media cache gone too big. Turns out, old server logs were bigger :blobcatroll:

Reclaimed 30 GB of space in a blink, yay :blobcathappy:
