It's that time again ... software #enshitification season.
Regarding #discord 's latest facial scanning / ID requirement. I was looking for alternatives once again. Not so much for me, but my son. The options are not that great, with many applications like #matrix #stout #revolt all missing features so I took another look at https://jami.net and you might want to as well.
Simple signup, free, voice and video calling, screen sharing and it's avail on all mobile and desktops:)
I hope the few #Discord servers I occasionally check have the good sense of moving to #Matrix. Or #XMPP, or #IRC, or #DeltaChat, or #Stoat, or #Zulip, or #Jami, or #Briar, or #RocketChat, or #Mumble... heckssake there are WAY TOO MANY open-source services you can move your chatroom to.

I'm actually ok with age verification for chat. However, it would be negligent to believe they won't use pii against users, or lose that data in a massive leak.
i dont think #matrix is the solution either, ive heard it has its own content problems.
cat.casa used to be my matrix homeserver, now it seems like it's gone offline. Anyone know what happened to it?
Every now and again I come back to the idea of making a #matrix client because element sucks ass and we need something better and with discord and it's ilk becoming worse and worse now might be the right time to start working on something.

I really like Element X. It is clean, straightforward and simply works. Wish I could convince more people to use it - hopefully the adoption will increase in coming years. Signal is “okay”, but Element X feels truly sovereign - and European. Curious? Take a look here: https://element.io/en
The perception of #Matrix chat on the Fedi seems to be somewhat divided, and I’ve never really understood why beyond the on boarding process?
I've been using it for a group chat for people here on the Fedi for a couple of years now and I’ve never had any big issues with it.
What do you consider a better group chat and why? I want to learn.
Okay I'm seeing like 4-ish Discord alternatives right now: Teamspeak, Root, Matrix, and Stoat. There's also Signal but that seems more like a return to Skype than what people use Discord for. Am I missing any?
