Root: Seems to work, but video quality is the worst I’ve ever seen. Like RealPlayer bad. Audio is mono
Stoat: Never got signup mail, no way to resend
Element: Stuck on «resetting my identity» for an hour. I made an account years ago and didn’t use it and it didn’t like that ig. Has made no apparent progress. A message warns me not to close the window

when looking for alternatives for #discord, you really start notice how much it does; dms, public chatrooms with topic channels, voice AND video chat, and livestreams.
that’s kind of a lot of features, each its own technical maintenance, plus the last two taking up ALOT of bandwidth.
just saying you’re probably not going to find one single app that does all of them, and that’s ok. don’t treat discord as the ONE standard all apps must conform to as a base.
