Something I believe may be warrant discussion is how each instance is beholden to the rules of another by virtue of federation. Something that has given way to vibes-based reporting which our administrator has been unable to act on.
This has, unfortunately, resulted in the slander of our instance. Branded as allegedly being "anti-moderation" and "bigoted" for choosing not to punish their users over frivolous reports or engage in the fediblock of the more fringe or controversial instances on here ourselves.
So Fedizens, what are your thoughts?

Have any of you moved a mastodon instance from one host to another? for obvious reasons, we are looking to move niagara.social to a Canadian hosting provider but, well, the database is 25GB and the media storage is 1.6TB, which is way too big, and also very difficult to move. We are considering just exporting the accounts, starting over, and importing them, but that is far from ideal. Any thoughts would be apreciated !

Ich kann die neuen SSDs fuer die Server jetzt zum Provider schicken. Dann werden sie bald eingebaut.
Ich glaube, ich hab die Micron 5400 Max 960GB Ende letzten Jahres noch fuer ca. 270.- Euro/Stk gekauft.
Jetzt kosten sie 535,50€/Stk. Mal gut, dass ich sie damals gekauft und nicht gewartet habe, dass der Preis wieder sinkt... :-)

@crossgolf_rebel Please refrain from lecturing me about the possibilities of the fediverse. You know damn well, that i have been a #FediAdmin of numerous servies for quite some time and i already know all these things.
The reason i rarely follow accounts with REALLY long (bloggish) posts is, that they tend to repeat themselves contentwise - f.e. use an exhausting amount of hashtags - or they just write about things i am not interested in. Simple as that. Which has nothing to do with the service they use at all.
And the hard truth is, that for the whole Fediverse, my 99% are more likely to hit the mark than your 55%.

There's a spammer signing up on multiple servers under the name "USA Resource Hub" and a header image with the US flag and statue of liberty in it. It's probably best to zap this one as soon as it signs up.

We are blocking and suspending communication with tech.lgbt effective immediately for flooding our instances (nsfw.social, nsfw.lgbt) and even my personal instance with invalid #AbuseReports. I thought it was just one instance that was being targeted but I can see now that it's all of them.
As an instance admin I have several choices when it comes to dealing with users on remote instances that abuse and harass the content reporting mechanism:
(1) I can flag the remote instance and reject all future abuse reports from that instance.
(2) I can suspend delivery of new content to those instances.
(I mean, I can also block the remote instance, too.)
I have chosen to suspend delivery of all content to tech.lgbt effective immediately.
If you are a tech.lgbt user and follow users on nsfw.social, nsfw.lgbt, or cyberczar.org and wish to continue to receive content, your only option now is to use a different instance.

Gestern abend habe ich mich wieder kurz auf eine Fediverse Diskussion eingelassen. Ich weiß, dumme Idee. Irgendein Fatzke auf #Friendica wollte mir erklären, was an der Mastodon Community alles schlecht ist. Einfach nur, weil ich dort einen Account habe. Was soll der Scheiß?
Auf meinen Hinweis als mehrjähriger #FediAdmin - u.a. Friendica - hat er mit einem Block reagiert.
Wenn wir solchen Idioten keinen Einhalt gebieten, wird das Fediverse eine Dorfgemeinschaft bleiben. Aber vielleicht ist das auch gewünscht. Was weiß ich schon.

Thanks to @heluecht for helping with the database issues on https://nerdica.net/ and saving (more or less) the node from being shut down because of those issues.
Now we still "just" a backlog in the queue of about 5 Mio. items in there, but hopefully this will resolve within the next days....
