Experimenting with baked lighting and transparency in Godot. The most ideal settings I could find were a little underwhelming, either making everything with 50% alpha or greater solid, and anything below transparent. Tried making two slightly overlapping hemispheres (red and blue) to make purple light, but the two overlapping transparent meshes seems to result in no transparency, but you can see on the ambient walls that the bounce lighting is adequately violet.

7 hours since the start of the #gmtk2025 jam and my snakoban is going really well ! Collectibles, pushables boxes, and undo are in. Going to sleep now ! Tommorow is going to be all in on level making.

After I implemented "entities dropping loot" I noticed that the "total draw calls" were nearly as high as the "total objects drawn". (3000 calls for 3000 objects)

After some experimentation I found the problem. Mixing Polygon2D and Sprite2D prevented 4.5b4 from batching either.

I tested it with and without "y sorting" and manual setting of the "z index".

After removing the polygon shadow and baking it into the texture the draw calls are at ~30 for ~3000 objects.

Much Better 😃

Hawk Hill Manor
Each Hut has a Worker
Huts and Workers have separate inventories
Where should I store the "recipe" for what to make? The hut, or the Worker?
Currently, they are Set (a Blacksmith makes Tools from Iron and Coal, a Baker makes Meals from Food and Coal), but I'll be expanding, and allowing for options
Workers are fixed to their hut, so I'm not sure it matters, unless I introduce changing Workers (lack of people, re-assigning, etc), so maybe on the Hut?

Okay, it's my shader cache I was talking about earlier (mastodon.gamedev.place/@pikari) and the CPUParticles, removing the cache and hiding particles save me nearly 15s of loading time 😶
I think I've run enough into them, I will stop using CPUParticles (can't use the GPU ones because PS Vita si OpenGL 2 only), we're talking about 3 CPUParticles nodes only. It was nice to have them but not required.
