Turns out getting physics-driven characters to not walk off ledges is actually kind of hard?

Like, you can't just detect an overlap between some 3D shapes, and where you're planning to move, and stop the move when they'd collide.

You need to detect where geometry *isn't*, then make up some rules to restrict physics manually, based on a specific absence you can prove.

Settled on predicting if a character won't be on ground, if it moves in each of the cardinal directions this frame, and if so, it stops movement in that direction.

Not perfect yet, but it's a start!

I just finished my #gamejam project lzrdnb.itch.io/relay-rally made in #godot. It's not much but you can drive my favorite car (first generation twingo) through a little city map.

Since it seems people don't know why you'd want this:

You have a Resource class: Potion.

How do you tell each type what it does?

Easiest way would be to bind arbitrary functions and args on a on_drunk Signal.

Otherwise you have to duplicate that functionality and it's either flabby or brittle. #godot

so in less dystopian news, did you hear that github user Ekyso successfully ported Slay the Spire 2 to Android? there's a hack here https://github.com/Ekyso/StS2-Launcher which emulates the steam client so you can download the game files and your save data and play it on your android phone or console.

As usual multithreading starts simple and then becomes a bit of a headache.

I am scanning and parsing roughly 500.000 files for spritesheet information or guessing the spritesheet by analysing the image.

Scanning the file tree takes 2 seconds.
Guessing atlas structure works well with a couple of thousand files but slows down when I do it for the full 500k.

Need to do some refactoring and add better controls for the cache and parsing request system.

Now generating actual place names for ports on the map, rather than placeholders like "Port 123". They do appear to be in different languages, which is on purpose, and makes me happy.

Label placement needs to be improved, obviously.
