WorkerLosejobState was extending the wrong state class, causing the whole system to spin its wheels without errors, but meaning I was chasing wild geese all day :(
Too late to work further on it, but at least I know why things weren't working.
Next: Fix all the nasty hacks I tried while following dead-end trails, and implement what I was trying to in the first place

Poking around with Godot a bit for fun (complete newbie), and I'm hitting a weird issue where a triangular portion of my tilemap doesn't get any textures rendered. It only shows up when running the game, not in the editor. Has anyone else seen this before?

So far input event handling is my least favorite topic - across all engines.
So many headaches on input propagation across the different layers.
Across nodes. Across state machine state transitions within the same frame. And so on.
The attached image just shows the godot propagation diagram. What is missing is the added complexity with state machine transitions within the same frame context. As Events are handled on frame basis (afaik).

Well, I've made a right mess of my Worker State Machine
Trying to chase references around, I've ended up causing some infinite loops, unresolvable cycles, and generally fouled the whole thing up! :(
I still don't know the best way of making a Citizen unemployed, without breaking references to their Workplace
Oh well. Back to the drawing board
