Okayy so I've not been active here for a while... think I'm gonna give it another go. Spending too much time on #bluesky lol
I was thinking of #Bluesky as not-Twitter, i.e., commercial but free of the RW nazi-adjacent stuff, & run by well-intentioned people. I was forgetting that it is a US-based VC-funded corp. I imagine there are all sorts of crazy pressures on it to buckle under MAGA rule, and that e.g., Charlie Kirk stuff was a lightning rod.
The only way BS could be immune to the sorts of pressures that e.g., the univs are under is by staying under the radar, & I don't think it can.

It's been a while, but it seems that it is probably a good time to visit the #introduction hashtag again and welcome new arrivals from #Bluesky.
Doing an introduction post and even adding a few of your interests as hashtags will make it easier to find likeminded people... I know, not hashtags.. but they do work in this situation. Good luck.

I love seeing all the new #bluesky folks in the public timeline
Some advice to get to the fun part as quickly as possible:
- Use the introduction hashtag to tell people you exist! Let us know who you are, what you're about, hashtags for things you're interested in, etc. It's like promosky but a bit more autobiographical. PEOPLE WILL BOOST THIS FOR YOU!
- Hashtags are really powerful. Use them like it's early Twitter when relevant!
- Ask questions about how this new app works with the fedihelp hashtag if you're confused. Anyone watching that tag wants to make sure you settle in alright; let us help you!
- If you see something cool, BOOST IT. Part of what makes all this work is showing things you like to your followers. There is very little algorithmic discovery by design: YOU ARE THE ALGORITHM.
- Send me pictures of your pet. This has nothing to do with social media. I just want to see cute animals.
Today on NovaLandia: I did a bunch of stuff to my GoToSocial instance, and made it do what I want to do, because Bluesky done diddly fucked up again, and you should probably leave that website.

I saw that a user named Link was suspended from #bluesky. does anybody know more? were they able to get back up on another #ATproto service and reconnect to people on bluesky? new test case.
here if they were on mastodon dot social but got suspended, they could join another server and pretty easily connect with everyone. MS might block them but would probably just silence them. and MS has a lower percentage of total fedi users than bluesky does re the ATmosphere.

I'm not very privy to the details of the #Bluesky drama, but I'm just glad I made the right choice and invested time/effort into Mastodon instead. I've always thought Bluesky could suffer the same flaws as Twitter, maybe the rest of the user base will see that now too, though I doubt this will change much.
