Not only did these folks build out a whole bunch of ATProto-compatible components but they were able to raise a run-rate of $85k p.a for their infrastructure.

Obviously, a Fedi instance costs a fraction of that, but just imagine what community contributions of that size could do - such as pay community-funded devs to build the things that are missing here - things that their community may have some really fucking useful situational awareness of.

I don't know the backstory to this but it appears a BlueSky user was permanently banned after appeal for making a rather anodyne post about Charlie Kirk.

Content warning:Pro-tip for noobies

Content warnings can also be used to build suspense or to hide a punchline for a joke :D

They're more than just a regular warning (tho helpful as such)

@2something
Echoing point 3:
If you're from a corpo app like #bluesky please use content warnings and the actual word. Self-censoring actively negates filtered words. For example: if someone is filtering a word like "crap" and you type "cr-p" now that subject has leaked through. You can cause additional trauma and stress by doing this. Algo-speak only serves the corporate overlords and hurts people looking to filter sensitive topics. The is especially hurtful when you algo-speak sensitive subjects without even using a content warning.

@Leeisme I had to unfollow a journalist I usually liked a while back because he was super credulous about “ is a worker-owned collective with an open protocol that’ll take over the web”. It’s just bsky dot app. People have really twisted themselves in knots trying to make it something other than “X with no business model” or “reinvention of the ActivityPub wheel”. Also you can tell the site is struggling whenever people there start shit-talking Mastodon.

@Leeisme

"More importantly though this user was supposedly on a separate instance. She was still able to lock him out of his account and perma ban him because #BlueSky isn't decentralized."

Let me take a wild shot at translation:

"this user" was running / was on his own #PDS but any PDS is isolated and alone unless it communicates back to Bluesky itself through the single Bluesky #DID

You can see a suggestion of this in any Bluesky URL:

bsky . app / profile / did:plc: ...
