"Keeping reading 'decentralised' in relation to Bluesky, which I assume refers to its infrastructure in some way..."
*sigh*
This "decentralized" / "federated" myth was a smokescreen developed around the time that Bluesky began to allow individuals to host their own PDS
"Self-hosting a Bluesky PDS means running your own Personal Data Server that is capable of federating with the wider Bluesky social network."
Except there never was any "wider Bluesky social network" because every PDS had to communicate --> back <-- to the single, one-and-only Bluesky DID
Of course, this minor detail /sarcasm is almost undocumented

In the spirit of welcoming *all* of our new friends here to Mastodon, I made a poster. I left out a hyphen for aesthetic reasons 😀

🎼 #Bluesky! You don’t have to put out a transphobia green light.
Bow to bigotry for money.
You don’t have to dine with the right.
Bluuuuuuuesky! 🎼
Maybe I'm in the wrong fedi bubble or I've been shadowbanned but I don't think I've seen any new accounts here who are from #bluesky
I've personally been banned off of Bluesky something like seven times. The first time, it was (presumably) because I made a blocklist of genocide apologists & such for my fellow leftists to block and got mass reported for the fact. I was permabanned for "spam", and when I tried to appeal, I just got an email saying that the reason I was permabanned was *actually* for hateful content, and denied any chance of appeal.
(Mind you, I was actually trying to be polite and reasonable on that site, because I hadn't yet been banned half a dozen times. Even with the list, I'd like to think I was very responsible with it and I didn't even use it myself so that people had a chance to appeal being on it.)
The funny thing is, you know when I got my first ever *temporary* suspension? On my sixth or something account, after I had long since given up politeness and was just being as hostile and aggressive as I pleased because I knew that I'd get banned regardless. There is no rhyme or reason to Bluesky bans. They ban you when they feel like it, for whatever reason they feel like. It's a website run by the tech bro equivalent of a high school clique, as is now plain to see with their nonchalant banning of anyone who dares to so much as criticize them.
Though on the bright side, I only came up with this persona because I figured I should have a different handle for my second account, so I guess I do vaguely owe my current online presence to Bluesky moderation being dogshit.
@Rascha > Is #Bluesky more suitable for Internet fame?
Time will tell. But I'll say this- the top 100 accounts are Twitter's most marketable personalities of the last decade. Bluesky has zero homegrown celebs, despite some early adopters having a year's head start. That top 100 list was, imo, curated by Bsky Inc.
@fromjason I'm not sure. Is #Bluesky more suitable for Internet fame? The discussions over here are sometimes a little bit boring. People on #Mastodon are very homogenous what their political convictions are concerned.
The big accounts will tell you it's the people on #Mastodon they don't like. But remember, they kept drinking from Twitter's feed long after the milk turned.
Professional posters need a game to beat; a system to rig. They need a marketplace of ideals to sell soundbites and merch.
#Mastodon is closer to a community than a market. You can't sell anything without a market.

Oh, are there people moving from #Bluesky to Mastodon?
It's not the sign-up process that's preventing a mass-migration to #Mastodon. Reduce barriers to entry, sure. But it was not so long that we had to load a CD, type in credentials, and listen to the Internet demons summon our connection.
No, it's that Mastodon isn't suitable for Internet fame. The big accounts will ever come to a place that doesn't support an algorithmic caste system. How'd they know who's more important? If the big accounts won't come neither will anyone else
