How about an #Introduction again, since I havenāt been very active here and Iām thinking of being more active. And yes, itās in part because of #Bluesky, the CEO, and their shit content moderation. Iām not leaving there yet. I would like to try another instance, though it looks like that may be pointless if Jay can get mad at you and delete you from all instances.
But I digressā¦ an intro:
Iām an #author #writing a book series called Mercedes Masterson Detective Stories, but also other novels and short stories as well. I have the first three in the series out now. The first two are free currently from my newsletter site (in the library). The series is noir/thriller and with some horror sometimes and deals in themes such as corruption, friendship, and #LGBTQ issues (Mercedes is a closested #bisexual woman).
Iām also a trained method actor (the non-annoying kind) and recently starred in a short film that garnered 4 nominations including Best Film. I used to do a lot of indie filmmaking back in the early 2000s. I love movies and especially #horror.
Iām currently enrolled at SNHU and in my last year of school. Itās looking like I may wrap up my bachelorās degree in the spring of 2026. Iām an English major and do enjoy #editing and am considering it as a career afterwards. Iām rounding off my degree with courses on #journalism.
I write and edit a #newsletter called Weaverās Deep Thoughts which has ādeep thoughtsā on a variety of topics as well as free #ShortStories and #poetry by a diverse group of writers. Itās slowly growing and submissions are currently open. Iām currently rolling out a serialized story called āThe Bride of Usherā for #Halloween which is a sci-fi/horror blend of āFrankensteinā and āThe Fall of the House of Usher.ā New installments are dropping every Friday this month. The first is a available now.

Content warning:super-technical discussion on Bluesky moderation
For Part 2 of the #Bluesky moderation issues: I wanted to double-check reference docs for Bluesky and ATProto to confirm.
The short explanation is: storing our Bluesky messages on theATL.social adds one measure of self-moderation and data sovereignty. However, the Bluesky servers can choose to ban, limit, or moderate content posted from theATL.social's Bluesky server.
Technical explanation: Even through theATL.social runs its own PDS (Personal Data Server) and stores posts internally, the Bluesky AppView (the AppView is like the central directory of all Bluesky resources) is operated by Bluesky PBC (the Bluesky company).
What does this mean? The future of Bluesky is sort of at the mercy of Bluesky PBC. The only way out of this box is if independent/OSS developers build on top of the underlying AT protocol to create a new AppView, Relay, etc., that can federate with the BlueSky PBC.
