@gabboman I decided to hack on this the past few nights, and came up with an experimental, backwards-compatible implementation that I created a draft pull request for @peertube/http-signature. I tried to follow the library’s coding style of the original as much as possible.

The idea of backwards-compatibility is that you can drop this into an existing application and nothing will break. There are deprecation messages that may surface in logs to guide changing from using the function exports to the cavage12Draft export (and the rfc9421 export).

I think the next step for anyone would be:

So if we want to stop this infighting, should we push everybody to use #wafrn and help develop it instead and automatically support both protocols? how does it work differently vs the normal #ATproto infrastructure or an #ActivityPub instance? no more need to bridge etc? would this be similar to what happened with IMAP, SMTP and POP3 for email?

The schadenfreude and gloating in the about the outage is indicative of the infantile tribalism that prevails around here. It's pathetic because it indicates a lack of appreciation of the enormity of the challenge of defeating . In that totally uneven fight, fundamental ideas such as those embedded in and protocols (and maybe others not yet gifted with a hashtag) must be explored as fast as possible and as deeply as possible.

So it’s very interesting learning about a bunch of work with #Bluesky happening after the DDoS they had.

There are many groups creating their own Personal Data Server (PDS) and then groups creating AppViews and Relays. Bluesky as a company has shown they can’t be relied upon and ATproto is creating decentralized systems.

I for one wish for a day when both #ActivityPub and #ATproto work together. Imagine getting posts no matter the software you are on. I think that day may come soon.

A Bluesky-zealot reply bro just told me that ActivityPub was not truly decentralized (but Bluesky was) and... Why are stupid people always so confident in their stupid claims? 🤦‍♂️ And tribalism will leads us nowhere. #ActivityPub
