Fediverse - The future will be federated and self-hosted - Elena Rossini
Walid: Welcome to all. For this new episode of Projets Libres of season 4, it’s my first recording on season 4 and today I’m really excited because we’re going to talk about one of the topics I like the most, we’re going to talk about the Fediverse. First of all, I have to tell you the story of the meeting with Elena Rossini, our guest of the day. It all started during the preparation of a conference that I was supposed to attend, and Elena too, to give feedback on the YunoHost self-hosting solution.
And it’s Mathieu from Yunohost who says to me “Oh you’re going to see right after you, there’s Elena, you don’t know her, she’s going to pass, she’s great, I’m sure you’ll get along well.” So I do my conference and right after me there’s Elena who passes by and I was speechless.
I thought to myself that this was really great: there are two great conferences on the Fediverse that I heard this year. One by the founder of Ghost at FOSDEM and then Elena’s. So then we talked for 5 minutes with Elena and I told her “You absolutely have to come and tell her more about the podcast.” It’s good because she’s with me today. And if you want to know more about her career as a director, very recently, April, in the show Libre à vous, published an interview with Elena, interview that I listened to this morning, which was very good, it’s episode number 256.

La possibilité de stocker localement les fichiers multimédia est apparemment bien prévue à terme. À ce moment-là, on sera vraiment rendu au stade où l’application sera très simple à auto-héberger. Reste qu’on est sur de la vidéo, donc youpi la bande passante (c’est d’ailleurs peut-être pour ça que pour débuter c’est le stockage S3 qui a été choisi).

Entrei ontem no servidor para ver se estava tudo bem, e estava com o disco 99% cheio. Correria para aumentar antes que tudo parasse de funcionar - nem podia atualizar as aplicações pois o Yunohost faz backup automático antes de atualizar e não tinha espaço. Suspeito que a última atualização do Pixelfed que eu tinha feito via Yunohost e que tinha dado errado 2x acabou duplicando coisas, e isso consumiu os últimos gigabytes que restavam. (a investigar)
O importante é que passei de 40Gb para 160Gb por somente 5€ a mais, e me senti como uma criança ganhando uma bacia de chocolate. 😀 Passei meses desinstalando coisas para salvar espaço, e agora poderei voltar a brincar, e o #Yunohost é um parque de diversão de nerd. 🤩
Acho que a primeira coisa será instalar alguma plataforma de blog, pois é algo que queria começar mas desisti. Eu gosto do Ghost, mas ouvi dizer que o package do Ghost no Yunohost não funciona muito bem, então não vou perder meu tempo e vou escolher entre writefreely e SPIP. O primeiro eu já conheço, é instalar e sair escrevendo - simples e eficaz. O segundo possibilita ter um blog multilíngue, mas a interface do admin é meio ano 2000 e tem uma curva de aprendizagem devido a uma linguagem específica para o template - precisa de motivação e dedicar mais tempo. Ainda não consegui decidir. Se eu conseguisse que o writefreely fosse multilíngue, seria o mais fácil. (ah, não quero Wordpress)
