A big #PrivacyWin today as my band #Slugmilk asked me for an alternative to the band's #discord server. They are NOT infosec folks, so I was some proud when they decided enough is enough.
We now have a private #matrix server which we #selfhost. Everyone has their own slugmilk.org username and everything!
Matrix is far from perfect, but this is exactly what we need, and it is under our ownership and control.
Now to get them all on the #Fediverse!

Ich habs jetzt mit #Matrix probiert, gleichzeitig auf dem PC und dem Handy, Ziel parallel beides nutzen zu können.
Ich war leider mit dem "Sie müssen ihre Identität bestätigen" völlig überfordert.
Ich probiers dann vielleicht irgendwann mal wieder, im Moment muss ich wohl weiter #Signal verwenden.
Schade.

I was fed up with Matrix and tried coming up with my own federated chat protocol. It got really complex really quickly.
In order to resist enshittification it needs to be decentralised. It can't be P2P because that would drain phone batteries. It must be federated. But that means that your admin could read your messages. So it must be federated and encrypted. And that's where it starts to get real tricky.
