Good afternoon Fedi ! Last public transport for a while : I caught my ferry from Chunphon to Thong Sala on Kho Pha-ngan.
In two hours, I'll finally arrive at my destination : The Matrix Community Retreat on Kho Pha-ngan.

Seriously, though, after Our other post using a bit of Sans dialogue to make it about #mtarix, We had a discussion that put Us on the idea of Gaster's communication being distorted being just him normally speaking but having his encryption keys messed up.
Of all the #UnableToDecrypt jokes, We'd personally put it in a solid second best, though #TheMatrix #Movie #Wikipedia entry one is still the funniest for Us personally.

I was thinking about spinning up a public Matrix instance as an alternative to Discord, but I think I'm just, like, not smart enough or patient enough to deal with a Matrix server that people other than myself are using. 
CubHub runs on, like, 90% audacity, but Mastodon isn't actually difficult software to run because of how well documented it is. Synapse is a nightmare to deal with and it has just purely awful documentation. 
I could try an alternative Matrix server but I dunno how well the Mautrix bridges work with that and if the documentation situation is better.

I'm new to hosting a #matrix server and am still learning how to do server admin and moderation, much less figure out how to teach laypeople. I was digging through matrix 2025 conference recordings and found this really awesome talk from @andybalaam about demistifying the matrix crypto terminology.
TLDR as I understand it: you have a password to prove to the server who you are. You have a recovery key to prove your identity to other people. The problem with #discord ID verification is that you have to prove your "identity" to a centralized server, which is Not Good. What's different with matrix and proving your "identity" (the terms have different definitions based on the platform) is that the server doesn't care, identity is only used in a distributed fashion to let you talk to others.
