@bagder Not related to the outage, really, this morning I found myself searching for federated IM protocols, ideally end-to-end encrypted. I know we have @matrix but was looking for something more DM-oriented like Signal, but federated.
Looked into XMPP, but E2E encryption relies on add-ons. It seems the closest we have to that is actually #Matrix.

The entire point of E2E messaging is to not trust the infrastructure.
Signal is imo still the best compromise. Mainly because alternatives are so bad.
Except #Deltachat, that works well. But the threat model has different tradeoffs.
#Simplex devs aren't trustworthy.
#xmpp is only working for some usecases and many software uses libxml that is known for holes.
#matrix is too broken to use for anything important and their hogging orgs seem to be not interested in fixing it.

Perhaps invest some time in exploring #Matrix or #Deltachat?
If you want to use the internet for communicating during revolutionary moments or during periods of social upheaval, don't assume Big Tech will facilitate it. Do it yourself.

Alors qu'on a des protocoles fédérés (avec plein de serveurs indépendants qui se parlent entre eux comme Mastodon et le Fediverse), avec plein de serveurs, et des logiciels serveurs libres, avec des clients libres également et bien sûr du chiffrement de bout en bout.
Ça ne dépend pas d'une infrastructure et d'une organisation centralisée, parfois des bouts coupent mais globalement ça marche.
Deux suggestions: #XMPP (mon préféré, avec Dino et Conversations comme clients) et #Matrix
