@redbr1ck Delta on itsessään ihan kiinnostava, mutta siitä puuttuu Matrixin yksi oleellinen ominaisuus eli sillat. Deltalla voi jutella Deltakäyttäjien kanssa, mutta Matrixilla pääsee olemassaoleville kanaville eri viestimissä. Ainakin itsellä tuo on ihan ratkaiseva ominaisuus kun suurin osa omista yhteisöistä pyörii matrixin lisäksi irkissä, telegramissa tai discordissa.
Mutta Delta on kuitenkin "hyvien puolella" ja toivotaan että yhteisöt valitsee sen esim discordin tai muun suljetun/keskitetyn vaihtoehdon sijaan.
Ps. Matrixin ja Delta Chatin välille on rakennettu siltaa, mutta näyttää että homma on jäänyt kesken. Ehkä se joskus saadaan kasaan.

Um Menschen in prekärer Lage, kreditunwürdig, wohnungslos (Frauenhaus) oder anderes zu erreichen, kann ich nur empfehlen einen Matrixaccount anzulegen und darüber auch erreichbar zu sein. Das geht z.B. über tchncs.de.

Zur Anmeldung braucht man keine #Telefonnummer, ggf eine Email, die wieder löschbar ist, Menschen wären über WLAN erreichbar (bei Obdachlosigkeit ist das schwieriger), kann über die SIM-Karte nicht verfolgt werden und ist unabhängig von einem Mobilfunkanbieter mobil erreichbar.
Das geht über #Whatsapp und #Signal. (Der Metakonzern, also Whatsapp, wird zukünftig Atomkraft für das Betreiben seiner KI-Rechenzentren einsetzen).

My WebGL Gradient Triangle!
I created a beautiful gradient by passing color data to the Vertex Shader and letting the Fragment Shader interpolate it across the triangle.
It's now much clearer how Vertices, Varyings, and Shaders work together!
Now, I'm going to figure out how to use Transformation Matrices to make this triangle rotate on the screen!

So I installed matrix on my server today, but in the end, I removed it today. I feel like Matrix with the Element client is SO CLOSE to being good. But it misses its mark on a few important elements (😉) for the average person that make it not for me & my user-base.
Here's my tl;dr feedback:
So I installed it via-docker & quickly realized resetting a password for a user is nearly impossible. Gotta use hash terminal commands but since its running in a docker container, it gets messy with those commands since dependencies and such are setup in a docker image container.
Also still having terminal-based user account admin commands feels so 1998 IMO... All the other self-hosted services I use can do it from an admin UI. I know matrix doesn't really have that option, but, its 2025, why can't it? (ppl that still want to use terminal can) lol
Also since I run behind a cloudflare tunnel using a sub-domain without an easy option of adding a /.well-known to the root-domain (already in use) to setup federation, that aspect doesn't really work at all (why can't this all just be handled from the sub-domain).
Also limited layout/customization options on the clients (ie. many are missing compact message display options)...
Long story short, IMO, I feel like Matrix with the element client is close to being as good as discord, but then misses the mark in many small but important ways.
Above is just the main things, but there were a few other things as well that stop me from using it. So-close but yet so-far... I just wish we could get an open-source self-hosted option that's capable of text chat, video / screen-share calls & file transfers with a usable UI for admin control. I'm just surprised the open-source options are still not really there yet... I am willing to bet, if setup & management of self-hosted matrix servers was improved to be just a little more user-friendly, a lot more folks would attempt to use it. 😄
