@bbeijnon @Joop Signal is zeker beter dan WhatsApp, maar het is nog steeds een gecentraliseerde dienst beheerd door een Amerikaans(!) bedrijf. Daarbij zijn ze ook nog eens tegen 3rdparty clients wat gebruik buiten Android en iOS zoals postmarketOS lastig maakt.
Het is dan ook wachten op het volgende probleem zoals de AWS outage al liet zien.
Liever stapt de wereld over op echte Amerikaanse onafhankelijkheid zoals #Matrix.
Gebruikt Volt tegenwoordig al wat anders dan Discord e.d.?

Hi! #Matrix Admin/User here. The only thing that is a little bit annoying to me: You can not really delete users (on synapse server), because of dependencies. It keeps somewhere in the DB and the name is not useable anymore. For tests use not the production 😊
What I really love is the easy #OIDC setup. Meanwhile there is also #tuwunel (a matrix Server) which has a lot of packages for different Distros, but I have not tried it yet.

Getting annoyed by some of the cruft that #RocketChat has accumulated over the years and their constant nagging to move to a paid subscription. Any #nerds have alternatives you like? I've heard #Matrix is annoying for other reasons. Seems like every #selfhosted #chat application just wants you to pay for a subscription now.

Just witnessed the new authentication flow on matrix.org in Element and it's so bad it managed to scare me that I somehow got phished, doesn't handle multiple profiles and doesn't work at all when there's no handler registered in the user's browser (there's no fallback!). I'm also amazed at how it launches the auth flow in an external browser (causing all these issues) despite of Electron being... a browser.
What's going on there? 🤨 #element #matrix
