Installed a Synergy server
[Matrix-based federated real-time messaging; comparable to how Mastodon federates microblogging]
on a Raspberry Pi 4B (8 GB) running Gentoo Linux.
Service is behind a firewall and fronted via an Apache reverse proxy on another host.
Net disk footprint increased by 1.2 GB.

I added livekit and lk-jwt-service to my #matrix homeserver so I can initiate calls and conferences.
Element X audio/video calling pretty much feels like Face Time. Better than Signal calls.

Advocating for #Matrix because of my desire for open systems is like trying to convince everyone how much I enjoy punching myself in the balls, with repeated demonstrations.
On iOS, Element Classic takes ages to load messages (no sliding sync), Element X is faster and now has space support, but notifications are *terrible* and people are now *phoning me* to tell me I have a message.
I’m sticking with it, because openness & bridging, but jeez, it’s hard to love. App suggestions v welcome.

Ich frag mich in welcher Bubble der Moderator lebt.
Ich habe #Signal noch nie Jemandem empfohlen & werde es auch nicht, aber habe trotzdem über 110 Kontakte dort.
Bei #Threema ähnlich mit ein paar wenigen Überschneidungen.
Bei #Matrix leider noch deutlich weniger, aber das Dezentrale (mit einem Protokoll) ist die Zukunft. Kein verschlossenes System wie Signal. Jeder Anbieter kann seinen Client darauf aufsetzen & daran mitarbeiten.
