🚗🚗 How Games Work: Traffic junction testing.
A figure-eight setup, sped up, showing cars taking turns at the crossing.

Started working on [DEDACTED] #Godot project last night and I would love to share screenshots so badly. 😢
But the wait will be worth it. Christmas is just around the corner. 🎅
This is still my favourite clip from Robot Shooter so far. Explosions are so much more fun when they throw objects around
Day 18
The camera now follows the cars rotation, with manual twist control through the mouse. I also wanted to add pitch control, but I don't understand how to work with angles in 3D. :/
I also had a look at the car physics in pakoon. That was quite a bit more drifty and almost glued to the ground. So tomorrow I think I'll make some flat test terrain and try to tweak the physics so it feels better.
Currently, the driving is pretty unsatisfying.
It's ugly, but I've devised a better system for handling 2D sprites in 3D space with the ability to rotate the camera in #godot (and have directionality matter -- I'm aware of billboarding which is also used)
Every character has two sprites: a front and back version (denoted by F and B in my programmer art versions below).
The blue arrows indicate which direction the character is currently facing. So for the one with a backwards B, that means we should see the back of that character, flipped horizontally. If I rotated more to the left, it would be a regular B. The other one, though, is front-facing because its arrow is pointed towards the camera.
One other issue that occurred to me is...what happens if you're playing an animation on a Sprite3D and need to suddenly play the same animation on the other sprite? That could get complex if mid-animation and code hinges on awaiting them to finish properly.
Instead, BOTH sprites play the animation, but one is visible.

Sawblades are always a good idea! Just lying around in the middle of the path, moving back and forth like it’s the most natural thing in the world.
Maybe I’ll add one or two more obstacles, but overall I think I’m ready to start working on perks and upgrades.

Needs to be run in OpenGL mode, and it doesn't even like THAT too much and falls even further back to GLES (see the yellow warning "GL doof") - BUT, in the end, #Godot #GodotEngine runns on my #RaspberryPi 😁

Lähetä tiimejä planeetan pinnalle, tutki uusia teknologioita, rakenna kaivoksia, lämmitä planeetta elinkelvottomaksi hallitsemattomalla ilmastonmuutoksella.
And the same in English: Survey, research, build mines, terraform.

This clip was too long to post directly, so it's on my Youtube channel. It's a short video of my 3D platformer project.

Yesterday, I spent most of the day bisecting and reporting a bug in the NVMe driver in the #Linux kernel.
Today I spent most of the afternoon reproducing and diagnosing a bug in #Godot.
I feel like I'm definitely doing this #OpenSource thing right, but meanwhile I'm making zero progress on my own work.
I got carried away by eye candy again! This time it happened when I was developing a line of sight system. With the visualizations on it's getting dangerously close to a stealth system. Maybe some special gear or ability could let the player see the bot LOS?
