#fediadmin we now follow the 3-2-1 backup rule, your data is now even more safe with us! ![]()
If you're setting up a new server on the Fediverse, it's usually best to use a fresh domain or subdomain that has never been used by any previous Fedi servers.
If a new server recycles the subdomain or domain from a defunct server, it may sometimes cause technical problems when trying to connect to other Fediverse servers.
More info about this and how to avoid problems at:
You can also create a new subdomain on an existing domain to avoid problems.

warning about this account’s purpose:
it contains a mixture of shitposts (often with emoji), cute/feral posts, and #fediadmin stuff for cuties.zip. which is which may be hard to tell ![]()
(however, if you see #fediadmin, you can assume this is an official admin post, even if @lare hasn’t read over it beforehand, and same thing goes for them)

Fediverse admins,
You can get a headstart on moderating your server by using ready-made server blocklists. There are many different lists to choose from, pick the one that suits your server's needs the best.
There's a guide for admins about using ready-made server blocklists on Mastodon here:

There's a good roundup of many different blocklists by @oli at:

9 more Meta Platforms /16 subnets blocked for scraping my Fedi sites.
Updated the #ThreatFeed and applied to my networking and web systems.
I know what day it is when I write this, but I say this with sincerity and kindness.
Thank you to all the instance admins out there doing the hard work to keep the peace and doing the necessary tasks to keep the lights on.
Without those efforts, my experience in the fediverse would be downright awful, with horrible people antagonizing folks like me relentlessly. Again, thank you for what you all do.
N.B. Current practice for this server's moderation is to, upon discovery, consider use of large language models (LLMs) as presumptive network abuse, absent other mitigating evidence. We encourage everyone to report such usage accordingly and encourage other server operators to take a similar view.

👀 FYI: Effective this month, our IP blocks for Anthropic & OpenAI network spaces have been refreshed and updated to minimize those organisations' abilities to interact with content posted here. Please continue to report any cases of susptected network abuse for review and action.
...honestly i feel like this would be easy to do with even just a *skin* on top of mastodon
I'm having a hard time trying to figure out why follow requests from e.g loops.video to my instance are replied with 401s from mastodon-web.
Secure Mode is off...
mastodon-web logs in DEBUG show various "Signature verification failed: Verification failed for..."
I'd love to hear your ideas on how to investigate further.
This seems to be only a problem with non Mastodon Instances...
thank you in advance 🥵
