I was blind to the obvious, Watson. I realised too late just how far and deep Moriarty has spun his fiendish network. Every minister and undersecretary in Whitehall, the CEO and CTO of every major corporation, the heads of our learned institutions, they all are part of Professor Moriarty's vast attention channelling machine. I cannot even trust Mycroft any more.

Our intriguing visitor has provided us with the most ingenious antidote, my friend. Lady Joan (his tone changed as he said the mysterious woman's name) has found a way to let people speak outside the Professor's net. Her strange Protocol is far from elegant, but it is immune to Moriarty's spell. Lady Joan (again, his voice became warmer as he said her name) wields this clumsy weapon with natural grace and with surprising efficiency. Her followers are an awkward lot; we will join them. Ah, I hear someone at the door. Joan has arrived!

My #ActivityPub fire hose feed is so large now, that I miss so much stuff overnight. There is more content here than when I was being algo feed over on #Twitter (BM)

After installing, screwing it up, and reinstalling my #snac2 #activitypub instance is working fine, I now have my own #fediverse home on a cheap vps with backup service.

I like to use #smolfedi as a client, because of it's java-less simplicity, and the lack of obfuscation. I use it via Ironfox on Android e/OS, and Librewolf on my #Artix Linux laptop.

Happy days.

Decided for the first time ever that it was worth breaking out some manual memory management for some code I want to run on (relatively) low resource systems. Weirdly, it's never something I've had reason to do before in these last ~20 years writing software.

So I get to take ziglang.org/ out for a trial run and try out all the funky design features I've been admiring from afar. I'm really enjoying it - trial run was streaming from RSS xml to activitypub Article json, and it has basically all just worked. Admittedly I'm rewriting a work flow I've already written in another language I know much better, but I'm pleasantly surprised with progress and how fast the resulting executable starts doing stuff (my biggest gripe with the languages I normally use).

Catodon federating deletes of objects it doesn't own

Hey @panos@catodon.rocks, now that I'm tracking errors encountered, I've got a bit more visibility into things that normally would've just been caught and ignored.

Today I received a Delete(Object) from Catodon associated with a user from catodon.rocks.

Two things:

  1. Its object referenced an item outside of catodon.rocks, and so it failed NodeBB's actor-object match check. Normally people can't delete other peoples' posts, so I think this might be a mistake?

  2. [...]

Before anybody thinks we're trying to arrange for a battle of the protocols, vs ... that's not the intention.

Instead, for people not deep down in the technical specs, these talks should give you an idea how these protocols work and you can better understand why their designers made different design choices and tradeoffs.

And for people who know one protocol well but not the other, we'd like to create ...
