Linux desktop news feels split in two right now.
On the one hand, Wayland is finally getting long-needed session restore, fractional scaling work is moving forward, Linux gaming just pushed past 5% on Steam, and GitHub had to retreat after backlash over Copilot pull request "tips”.
On the other, the office suite world is a proper mess: Euro-Office has launched, ONLYOFFICE has suspended its Nextcloud partnership over licensing and attribution claims, and the LibreOffice ecosystem is locked in a very public fight between TDF and Collabora.
This is what happens when open source becomes strategically important again. Governance, sovereignty, trademarks, attribution, and control all come to the surface.
Are we seeing healthy competition, or the start of fragmentation that could hurt Linux users?

France is on its 5th Republic.
Perhaps it is time for serious citizens of the United States of America to start thinking about the successes and failures of the USA’s first republic and start working on a constitution and system of government for the 2nd American Republic.
It could be argued that this is a natural cycle for all democracies. France went back and forth from Republic to Empirical Fascist half a dozen times in 200 years before landing on its fifth iteration in 1958.
Many other countries (Spain, Germany, Austria) have had similar progressions.

At @tdforg we finally managed to implement Code of Ethics (actually borrowed from FSF), Fiduciary Duties, Conflict of Interest Policy and Community Bylaws that should make it more unlikely to have these types of issues in future. My family are completely broke for the next week. We barely paid rent & missed our electric by 4 days. My sister gets promoted next week.
We're starving, we hardly eat & don't have a car. We're all incredibly ill, both physically and mentally w/ only 1/5 members of my house capable of work. I'm trying to get disability, but that takes a long time.
My family has been in poverty for years. We cannot even afford to get my Mom to her surgery on Tuesday. My dad has been skipping psych meds to make ends meet sometimes.
Anything helps. Anything we get will go to food, medications & treatments as well as upcoming bills.
