Keen-eyed observers quickly picked up on the policy change. The firm initially claimed it was just a clarification to ensure the company’s usage policies remained readable, telling the Intercept that they had simply wanted to “create a set of universal principles that are both easy to remember and apply.” However, when pressed further, an OpenAI spokesman admitted the company harbored a desire to pursue “national security use cases.”"

CENSORSHIP: "Satellite imaging firm Planet Labs said on Saturday it will indefinitely withhold visuals of Iran and the region of conflict in the Middle East to comply with a request from the U.S. government.
California-based Planet Labs announced the decision in an email to customers and said the U.S. government had asked all satellite imagery providers to indefinitely withhold images of the conflict region.
The restriction expands upon a 14-day delay on imagery of the Middle East that Planet Labs imposed last month, a move the firm said was meant to prevent adversaries from using it to attack the U.S. and its allies.
Planet Labs said it will withhold imagery dating back to March 9 and that it expects the policy to remain in effect until the conflict ends.
The war began when the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran on February 28, and the conflict spread in the region when Tehran responded by launching its own attacks on Israel and U.S. bases in Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain."

My daily budget for my #TinyHome is 15000 Wh per day, I have enough #Solar panels to charge up that amount in my #Batteries in 1 day's peak #sun hour. That's enough to run my tiny #AC and #refrigerator for 24 hours (plus a full day's backup of an extra 15000), with change left over for a few appliance. While normal desktop usage can only run for a few hours with the left over charge, I've found that a #RaspberryPi 4b can run for like 40 hours on 1 day's battery after AC and Fridge. Perfect!

I always enjoy seeing these public discussions about what the fediverse can and should be.
Sure there’s a lot to improve, but the social problem of “how should humans behave in a group” is a permanent one.
Voice is a sign of a healthy community and loyalty. I’ll be worried when i stop reading people argue passionately for what the fediverse should be, because it’s a sign that its members have lost faith in it and would rather exit.
We’re here voluntarily, with different goals, needs, and expectations. There’s going to be wildly different ideas about what this should look like, and it’ll continue to churn at its edges as long as it exists.
Defederation is such a powerful tool: we are free to choose who we don’t want to interact with. Us. Not a for profit, not a government, us the members of each server or league of servers. That’s the shape of community.
The ban, filter and mute are important but individual. Defederation is collective, and I find that much more interesting.

"Gulf sovereign wealth funds are undertaking a sweeping review of American investments, driven by a combination of commercial necessity and political recalibration driven by the Iran war, according to sources familiar with deliberations around the high-level financing deals.
In particular, the planned merger between Paramount Skydance and Warner Brothers Discovery, made possible as a result of Gulf financing, is getting a new look. A postponed meeting of the board of the Qatar Investment Authority will reconvene within the next week as the fund recalibrates its investment approach, a source with knowledge of the deliberations said. “Even from a purely, purely numbers perspective, you have to look at this again,” said the industry source, asking for anonymity to speak freely about investment matters rarely discussed publicly.
No announcement from the meeting is expected, the source said, as the Qataris are unwilling to unilaterally back out of the deal without Saudi Arabia also doing so. Withdrawing from the deal would be seen as a political shot against both Israel and the United States, which Qatar feels it can not undertake alone under the current circumstances.
The merger between the two media conglomerates was announced on February 27, 2026. The next day, the U.S. and Israel launched a surprise attack on Iran, which responded, as promised, by attacking Gulf countries hosting U.S. bases. Those same Gulf countries are the primary financial backers of the merger, according to documents on file with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Wealth funds connected to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates pledged $24 billion to back the deal, which cost nearly $111 billion."

The intro to the new Malcolm in the Middle is quite the thing. Kids punch police officers. Santa Claus gets kicked in the face. A barrel full of faeces detonates inside a family car. This recap of previous episodes is so full of gross-out comedy and family fights that a grandma grabs her teenage grandson and crushes his testicles until he squeals. “And,” intones a voiceover at its end, “someone actually asked for more of this.”
Did they? It’s been 20 years since the Emmy-winning sitcom about an outrageous working-class US family with the titular child genius went off air. It’s a show whose fans remember it fondly for never dipping in quality throughout its seven seasons. But were they really clamouring for more?
“It was in all the magazines,” says Frankie Muniz, AKA lead character Malcolm. In 2015, he casually tweeted that it would be “so cool” to catch up with the characters and “I couldn’t believe the response. I was shocked.” Although, really, he shouldn’t have been. After all, he’s spent decades getting first-hand experience of how much more loved the show is than he ever dreamed...
