Lyons said in a written statement that officers conducted a traffic stop Tuesday in Patterson, which is about 80 miles south of Sacramento, “to arrest Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez, an 18th Street Gang member wanted in El Salvador for questioning in connection to a murder.” Lyons stated that when officers approached his car, Mendoza Hernandez “weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run an officer over.” Officers then fired what Lyons described as defensive shots. Mendoza Hernandez was subsequently hospitalized. It is unclear how many times he was shot or what his condition is currently. ICE declined to provide further information on Mendoza Hernandez, in response to a question by a reporter for The Sacramento Bee.

This is a systemic flaw in #Mastodon for which #Fediverse developers must provide a fix.
One step to fix it: the writer of the original post should be have the option to make replies to their own post as visible as the OP itself, individually in bulk, overriding the preferences of those who reply. Another step to fix: harassed users should be able to share synced block lists of harassers and harassment-permitting servers.

I've had someone ask me before why I don't switch to Python from R. Their argument was that Python seems to be the more versatile and transferable skill to have. I mean, I can code in Python, but I don't really need to, given that I can do pretty much anything I need to do in R. Also, R is still quite the dominant language in academic research anyway, at least in my field...
