Introducing #Hollo. Hollo is an #ActivityPub-enabled single-user microblogging software. Although it's for a single user, it also supports creating and running multiple accounts for different topics.
It's headless, meaning you can use existing #Mastodon client apps instead, with its Mastodon-compatible APIs. It has most feature parity with Mastodon. Two big differences with Mastodon is that you can use #Markdown in the content of your posts and you can quote another post.
Oh, and Hollo is built using #Bun and #Fedify.

We are building the Game of Trees Hub, a #Git repository hosting service based on #gameoftrees and #OpenBSD, funded via an open collective.
Our Git repository server implementation can already be self-hosted on OpenBSD and Linux, but:
1) Not everyone can or wants to self-host.
2) Most people don't need yet another Git hosting service, though some people might appreciate a financially transparent and independent service that supports both public and private repositories, has no intentions of abusing user data, and is not striving for infinite growth.
3) Ever since the Game of Trees project started as a side project in 2017 it has received zero financial support. And with developers growing up and having families with children to support, unpaid work on Game of Trees has been eating its way into working hours. Which is not sustainable in the long term.
Can we make a win-win situation out of this dilemma?

Ok, everyone, here's the big news regarding my #Twitch channel:
I've come to a point in my life where I'm financially stable, so I don't need any income from Twitch anymore. During my break, I've decided that I want to keep on streaming, as it brings a lot of joy to my life. I also don't want to unaffiliate the channel, as this means that there won't be emotes and channel points anymore.
This means that from now on, I'll be donating all Twitch income to local animal welfare projects (like the shelter in my area or the cat aid programme). I also plan on doing charity streams again, with the first one coming in May or June.

Interesting draft proposal and discussion on this thread. I do like the idea of coordinating some of the existing Mastodon forks into a common starting point -- whether that becomes a new hard or soft upstream, or a 15th standard. I'll need to read through more of this and think about it.
I still think interoperability between different Fediverse platforms for different use cases and so forth is even more important, but that's something that can be done with or without a hard fork, so it's effectively a separate discussion.

The Outgoing Mexican President’s Policy Towards Illegal Immigration And Cartels Is A Gift To Trump
Many Americans support the former president’s tough stance on these issues.
Outgoing Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who’s popularly known by his initials as AMLO, declared that his country won’t accept any illegal immigrants that Texas might deport in the event that its Senate Bill 4 from last year survives the ongoing appeal process after the Supreme Court’s ruling. He criticized that bill as “contrary to human rights, a completely dehumanized law, anti-Christian, unjust, violating precepts, norms of human coexistence, not only international law, but even violating the Bible.”
AMLO also declared that he won’t fight the drug cartels on the US’ orders despite accusations that they’re responsible for his northern neighbour’s drug crisis. In his words, “We are not going to act as policemen for any foreign government. Mexico First. Our home comes first.” Taken together, his support of illegal immigrants and reluctance to forcefully confront the cartels combine to become a gift for Trump ahead of November’s elections seeing as how many Americans support his tough stance on these issues.
Here are three background briefings to bring unaware readers up to speed on this subject:
* 11 March 2023: “It’s Unlikely That The US & Mexico Will Ever Meaningfully Cooperate Against The Cartels”
* 19 April 2023: “Mexican-US Ties Are Deteriorating Due To Drug Indictments & Leaked Spy Reports”
* 6 January 2024: “Is Biden About To Put 10 Million Hispanics On The Path To American Citizenship?”
They’ll now be summarized in the order that they were shared for the reader’s convenience.
The first concerns the security dilemma that impedes meaningful cooperation against the cartels, while the second touches upon the US’ secret dispatch of agents into Mexico and spying on its armed forces. As for the last one, AMLO’s proposal for Biden to grant visas to the 10 million Hispanics that are illegally inside the US could place them on the path to citizenship if this happens and legal safeguards aren’t put in place. The impression among many voters is that Trump’s tough policies are urgently required.
Biden hasn’t done much to address these problems despite the US Border Patrol chief declaring that the situation constitutes a “national security threat”. He might still implement some superficial policies, but they’d likely be considered “too little, too late” and nothing more than an electioneering spectacle just like his belated Gaza aid policy. It’s also unlikely that AMLO will have a change of heart about these issues before leaving office, with all of this paving the way for Trump’s possible return in November.

I have added the most popular Fediverse software to the sample config. Firefish versioning needs a custom regex 😬
Anything that's older than ca. 1-3 months gets silenced by this config, and versions that are ca. 1 year or older get suspended.
The script will demote any suspend to silence if the server knows about a follow relationship.
The current sample config will block around 4000 outdated servers 😱

Here’s What I Learned From Analysing The New Cold War Every Day For Two Years Straight
These five trends are considered to be the most significant grand strategic ones that are expected to have the greatest impact on the global systemic transition across the coming year.
I’m a Moscow-based American political analyst with a PhD. in Political Science from MGIMO, and this is my second yearly review of the New Cold War after I published my first on the one-year anniversary of the special military operation (SMO) here. I’ve been analysing the New Cold War every day since 24 February 2022, beginning at now-defunct OneWorld till mid-2022 and continuing at my Substack to the present. Here’s what I learned from doing this daily for my second year straight:

* Sino-US Bi-Multipolarity Has Given Way To Tri-Multipolarity
The Sino-US bi-multipolar system that characterized the years before the SMO has since evolved into tri-multipolarity as a result of India’s successful rise as a globally significant Great Power. The emerging world order is now shaped by the interplay between the US-led West’s Golden Billion, the Sino–Russo Entente, and the informally Indian-led Global South within which are several independent Great Powers. With time, the system will reach the stage of complex multipolarity (“multiplexity”), its final form.
* “Fortress Europe” Is The US’ New Project For Containing Russia
The failure of Kiev’s counteroffensive prompted the US to consider backup plans for containing Russia after it became obvious that NATO couldn’t strategically defeat its opponent in Ukraine. Poland’s subordination to Germany after Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s return to power enabled that country to resume its superpower trajectory with US support for accelerating the construction of “Fortress Europe”, which will fulfil this goal while freeing up American forces to redeploy to Asia for containing China.
* Western Military-Industrial Wherewithal Is Weaker Than Expected
Germany won’t become a superpower anytime soon nor will the US more muscularly contain China in the coming future either since Western military-industrial wherewithal is weaker than expected as proven by the counteroffensive’s failure and the inability to replenish lost stocks that were given to Kiev. The New York Times even confirmed last September that Russia is far ahead of NATO in the “race of logistics”/“war of attrition”, which explains why the Ukrainian Conflict began to wind down lately too.
* Any Deliberately Calculated Sino-US Crisis Has Likely Been Delayed
Building upon the last observation, it’s likely that any deliberately calculated Sino-US crisis has been delayed till at least the end of the decade owing to the fact that America’s surprisingly weak military-industrial complex requires time to rearm America, replenish its stockpiles, and arm regional allies. A comparatively minor crisis might occur by miscalculation, perhaps due to the Sino-Filipino dispute, but the US would struggle to manage a major one of its own making, let alone fight a major war right now.

The primary route for Euro-Asian trade has been disrupted by the Houthi’s blockade and security remains uncertain even if the aforesaid is lifted due to Somalia assembling a regional coalition – Eritrea, Egypt, and potentially Turkiye and the US – to stop Ethiopia’s plans to open a naval base in Somaliland. The interests of all the key Great Powers – the US, China, the EU, Russia, India – converge in the broader Red Sea Region, which thus makes it the new Global South flashpoint to keep a close eye on.

These five trends are considered to be the most significant grand strategic ones, though that doesn’t mean that others like those taking place in the Sahel or the acceleration of financial multipolarity processes aren’t important. They’re just the ones that are expected to have the greatest impact on the global systemic transition across the coming year for the reasons that were explained. Hopefully my insight can inspire other analysts to refocus their work and consequently improve the quality thereof.
