I keep going deeper down this copyparty rabbithole. I have this sense that there must be a simpler way to stay within Copyparty, not needing #VLC and #SMB (in addition to copyparty). Basically, vids saved with #yt-dlp, will by default save the vids in .webm with av1 encoding. Which #Apple devices disdain (requiring, say, #VLC to save the day). Yes, yt-dlp can be asked to save in a different video format, but I can't be arsed to fiddle with any other command line options, except the resolution. And I don't want to wait for a re-encoding step, since I run yt-dlp on a #RaspberryPi, which will do such re-encoding slowly.
An easier approach is to do the video downloading in #NewPipe on #Android, not yt-dlp. It saves the vids in .mp4 with "sensible" H.264 - which then plays on all devices, just in the web browser, including on my #iPad. The upload into my #RaspberryPi using #copyparty is blazing fast from my phone: ~80MB/sec over wifi. Copyparty's so-called "up2k", for such uploading, is awesome! This is over Wifi 6 (using an inexpensive #OpenWRT router) - not even Wifi 7.

I enjoyed it... although tbh, for this kind of video I prefer Peertube over Loops as I like:
1. To watch them full screen, which is unavailable in the loops web app
2. To watch in a horizontal form on my PC monitor / projector
3. 10+ minutes long
4. Without looping
Don't get me wrong. I like loops as a platform, but it seems more designed for quick, small video morsels, where this seems like the beginning of a relaxing, leisurely stroll through the video park.
It may just be a case of the content not matching the platform.
One of my favorite videos is actually a 1 hour Peertube video of someone just walking silently through a national park. So relaxing to just leave no in the background...

In that brief time I looked back at #Friendica and wondered if I was gonna have to just deal with abandoning my efforts with #Hubzilla, I did notice all those things that were missing: polls, custom emotes, strict privacy controls, file uploads, blocking post imports by strings or regex...stuff that even in a couple weeks I found I really didn't want to live without.
The only thing Friendica has that Hubzilla doesn't is a robust moderation panel, but you know, the more I think about it, the less I miss it. It really isn't all that often that someone is such a problem that they should be blocked from the entire instance, and if someone really does feel that strongly about a person, they can take the extra time to personally message or email me about it. In my time as a fedi admin, I've noticed that the few reports that got made to me were extremely silly, nonsensical, even — especially because they were made about me. Yes, people reported me to myself, on multiple occasions, it was hilarious.
And likewise, if an admin of an instance feels so strongly about one of my users or my moderation, they can take the time to take it up with me personally — and if they don't want to bother doing that, then, well, good riddance, really.
I think this new home will be nice.
