I have noticed on #mastodon , all instances are federated slightly differently. You can see this for yourself because https://mastodon.social 's public timeline is completely different from https://furries.club 's, as an example.
So I wanted to #dev a Mastodon #web client that allows you to pick instances and you'll see a combined timeline with posts from all instances you select, either from newest, or by followed hashtags. Would you use it? I think I would! 
But since it's a #website with no backend, I can't put the client secret in there since it will make my app vulnerable to attacks (people can spoof requests using my app's identity even if they are not allowed to interact with authenticated users).
