If you haven't tried it yet, I definitely recommend checking Jujutsu Version Control System.
I literally heard about it two days ago, started reading through some tutorials, and already feel like this is something exciting and new in the VCS world. You can use it locally on any git repository you already have, since it uses git as the backend.
Anyone else in the team can keep on using git, and if you feel like it you can switch back to use git at any time.
`jj` feels intuitive, and makes rebasing less of a hassle; actually there is no hassle! How many times have you done `git rebase --abort`, when you're halfway through fixing the conflicts using git rebase? I have quite many times. I hate it.
With jj it's no problem, it won't stop you to fix your conflicts, but lets you continue your work, and fix the conflicts later. And when you do that, it automatically rebases the fix to the child changes. It also lets you do any changes anywhere in the history. If you feel like some change is better to be done in another commit, you can just insert the commit after/before another, and squash the changes. Then continue working as usual.
This is yet another rabbit-hole for me, and I love it! Of course, I still need to use it in my day-to-day work, and I'll probably be going back to the tutorials, and asking stupid questions, but I have a feeling it'll be all right.

The newest version of EvoDevo Papers is online, and it’s the biggest update since the last codebase refactoring. I’ve made several additions and improvements to the website and implemented cross-posting to Bluesky.

Why have a website?
For many years, EvoDevo Papers’ posts were only on Twitter. Everything was well—until it wasn’t. When I moved it to Mastodon, all the 1.6k posts remained behind. The account was reborn with zero posts and followers. Posting continued in the Fediverse. However, when the botsin.space instance closed down and EvoDevo Papers migrated to biologists.social, the newer posts were also lost. The contents in third-party social media platforms, even of the finest kind, like the Fediverse, are ephemeral.
Ephemeral is fine and fits the original motto of streaming the latest papers. But, over the past years, I began to recognize that having a curated collection of works from a field can have a lot of value and deserves a persistent archive. That’s why when I refactored the bot, I made a website for EvoDevo Papers. It is meant to serve as the main source of content, while the posts are syndicated to third-party social media sites (following IndieWeb’s POSSE practice).
Website updates
The original website was minimal. It had a single page showing the five latest posts, the feeds, and an about section. There was no way to explore older posts or check in more detail the indexed feeds.
With the update, I made the home page simpler but more informative. There are now separate pages for the about, feeds, and posts, where you can browse the contents, and each post got an individual page linking to the associated statuses on Mastodon and Bluesky.
The website also has an RSS feed now to follow EvoDevo Papers directly from your feed reader.
Bluesky posting
In the turmoil of the Twitter exodus, supporting Bluesky posting wasn’t my priority. I was focused on making EvoDevo Papers work for Mastodon, since I believe the non-corporate nature of the Fediverse is a better and more robust option for rebuilding online scientific communities.
However, Bluesky reached a critical mass of scientists, particularly within the DevBio and EvoDevo communities, that I would like to reach. So, I’ve activated the EvoDevo Papers account there, and let the paper posting begin.
Implementing Bluesky support wasn’t trivial. It required substantial refactoring of the database models and publishing pipeline. But it was for the better. The app is now more modular and supports the addition of other accounts.
Next steps
With the refactoring of the publishing pipeline, I have the logic more or less in place to enable the posting of papers from the archive, not only the latest publications. This allows us to publish a random older paper, for example, on days when there are no new papers. This would increase the potential interactions.
For the same reason, I’m also considering increasing the frequency of posting to two times a day (currently it’s only once per day). Although I’m not convinced yet. I like the low posting rate; it feels less overwhelming. Who needs more social media posts on their timelines anyway?
Finally, I’m also importing the entire history of posts back from 2015 to consolidate the database and celebrate the ten years of EvoDevo Papers online.

I've finally completed most of the guides I was planning on adding to my #Homelab Wiki - now it's got guides on setting up #Portainer, #Immich, #Jellyfin, #ErsatzTV, #OpenMediaVault (#OMV), and even #HomeAssistant - all of these (besides Jellyfin and ErsatzTV, those are on #Proxmox) are hosted on my #RaspberryPi in my homelab.
Most importantly though, I've organised the wiki a lil better - into different courses. The first course details the type of hardware you're going to want to assemble - a beefy server (with only consumer parts) or a mini server (i.e. an #SBC), or whether you'd like to deploy a #NAS, followed by a course to setting up and managing a hypervisor (including #ESXi, but really, use Proxmox - which is #FOSS and plain better).
There's also a whole course on all sorts of 'host deployment environments' (i.e. where your application is hosted on, like #VM, #Docker, #Kubernetes, and #LXC) you could have in your homelab. (One of the) Most importantly, a course on networking - which covers valuable topics like setting up a domain, free or paid, and setting up a reverse proxy for serving your hosted applications publicly, securely.
There's still some stuffs I gotta add, like a complete guide on setting up #TrueNAS (which I've set up for many years at this point, without much documentation on how I did it - so I gotta find an opp to replicate it, when I have extra hardware maybe), but I'm pretty happy with it at this point. I rewarded myself for doing ok at work by taking some time to implement a simple behavior tree in #Godot for controlling characters in my point-and-click game 😊
I need to come up with some sort of context switching system for it next, to be able to modify the tree when some things happen, that the character can change sequences when needed. Either by selectively clearing the tree or by generating context IDs and failing actions when it doesn't match. Hmm

Tried to solve that by merging the level's meshes from Trenchbroom into a single one with Blender, but it doesn't do any difference on loading time on PS Vita 🤔 (it may even add 1 or 2 sec)
I was thinking reducing the number of nodes may help, but it seems I was going the wrong way. Tomorrow I will remove one by one the nodes to see if any of them is responsible for a significative part of the loading time 😮💨

Overall my UX since opening this #Sharkey #BlahajZone account has been quite lovely, but there are various papercuts & frictions all the same. In earlier posts i've mentioned various #Antenna hassles [wrt efficiently managing all my #FollowedHashtags]. The way that Sharkey's own text formatting [#MFM] does not follow standard #Markdown practices in some cases, thus looking not as i intended when viewed in non-Sharky instances, is another issue.
The most recent PITA, albeit it's been present all along, only in recent days seems rather worse, is repeat failures of my two #List timelines to load at all [see attached pic of the common result], & in between these frequent failures, i experience much latency trying to get posts to accept my Likes, or to invoke the [excellent] Search function, or various other commonplace UI interactions. This morning in particular it is, frankly, terrible.
Towards the end, i now recall that my old #Firefish instances also suffered this repeat failure of timelines to load, & other-while large latency, so having it now be my multiple-times-each-day experience here is pretty alarming. However even if not fatal, it poses a significant usability liability... after all, each time i retry my #Friendica instance i eventually keep returning to Masto coz Friendica's latency drives me batty.
Despite once again clearing the cache & doing multiple page reloads, as i am about to post this whinge, one of my timelines has still errored-out rather than loaded. This is galling, & i feel myself on the verge of returning to my Masto-Statuzer instance once again. Tis a pity.

Hay una cosa que me pone enferma de las redes sociales "privativas". Ahora, solo por querer que la gente vea tus vídeos o publicaciones (nada mas porque te gusta que los vean) te quieren sangrar, si no eres alguien de alta fama, que paga o que crea polémica no eres visible
Eso y con el posible aumento de boots de mierda la motivación por compartir algo se desvanece rápidamente
Y si, estoy volviendo a subir contenido a Tiktok. Pero no como el de antes ni de la misma forma

Привет, Хабр! Сегодня мы рассмотрим, как протестировать Kafka с помощью Testcontainers. Testcontainers — это библиотека, которая из JUnit-теста запускает Docker-контейнеры как обычные Java-объекты. Вы пишете пару строк — а на фоне поднимается полноценная инфраструктура: база, брокер, Redis, что угодно. После теста контейнер гарантированно останавливается, поэтому окружение всегда чистое, а CI не засоряется процессами. Kafka в Testcontainers запускается теми же двумя строками. Получаем реальный брокер, который ничем не отличается от продакшен-копии, но живёт ровно столько, сколько идёт тест.

Apologies to most but not all of the instances who've been trying to federate with me but keep getting blocked. This instance is sitting behind an AdGuard Home server running an extremely large blocklist. I made said blocklist myself by simply concatenating a bunch of blocklists that already existed. It's definitely a double edged sword now that I'm running my own Fediverse instance. There are definitely, literally a few, instances who've been trying to talk to me who are about to get domain blocked for real (meaning here). I've also had to (in AdGuard Home) unblock a few big instances I'm already familiar with who are no problem at all. The percentage of domains blocked at the DNS level has literally increased from low single digits to mid-twenties percent since I've started running this thing. In both cases, before and after, that's over the last 24 hours. I've had my own server on the Fediverse for about 22–23 hours now. So the thing's a tad bit touchy… I'm working on it, lol.
