The United States of America is unstable.
Many people believe our government is incompetent and unstable. But it's the instability that rarely gets discussed.
The United States isn’t unstable in the sense of collapse or chaos — but in a deeper, structural way. Policies swing wildly depending on which party is in power. Rights are granted, then repealed. Programs are created, then defunded. Legal precedents are overturned. For many Americans, the ground beneath their feet feels like it’s constantly shifting.
Every election cycle, what the government gives, it can just as easily take away. We’re still locked in the same endless debates over hot-button issues every 2–4 years, because everything can flip depending on who holds office.
We normalize this constant back-and-forth, but it’s not normal. It's exhausting. And it's why so many people stop believing in the system altogether.
