OpenAI, twórca popularnego chatbota ChatGPT, stanęła w obliczu poważnego kryzysu wizerunkowego po tym, jak prywatne i często bardzo osobiste rozmowy użytkowników zostały odnalezione w wynikach wyszukiwania Google.
Po fali krytyki firma w pośpiechu wycofała kontrowersyjną funkcję i rozpoczęła usuwanie zaindeksowanych czatów z sieci. Sprawę jako pierwszy nagłośnił serwis Fast Company, który poinformował o tysiącach rozmów z ChatGPT widocznych publicznie w wyszukiwarce Google. Problem wynikał z funkcji udostępniania czatów. Użytkownicy, chcąc podzielić się linkiem do rozmowy, mogli nieświadomie zaznaczyć pole opatrzone etykietą „Uczyń ten czat wykrywalnym”. Dopisek mniejszym, jaśniejszym drukiem, informujący o możliwym pojawieniu się treści w wyszukiwarkach, dla wielu okazał się niewystarczająco czytelny.
W rezultacie w sieci znalazły się niezwykle wrażliwe dane. Użytkownicy, sądząc, że prowadzą prywatną konwersację, opisywali swoje problemy ze zdrowiem psychicznym, życie intymne, zażywanie narkotyków czy traumatyczne doświadczenia. Chociaż czaty nie zawierały bezpośrednich informacji identyfikujących, ich wysoka szczegółowość mogła pozwolić na powiązanie ich z konkretnymi osobami.
Początkowo OpenAI broniło się, twierdząc, że oznaczenia funkcji były „wystarczająco jasne”. Jednak pod rosnącą presją, dyrektor ds. bezpieczeństwa informacji, Dane Stuckey, przyznał, że opcja ta stwarzała „zbyt wiele okazji do przypadkowego udostępnienia rzeczy, których nie zamierzali” udostępniać użytkownicy. Nazwał całą funkcję „krótkotrwałym eksperymentem”. Google z kolei zdystansowało się od problemu, wskazując, że to wydawcy stron – w tym przypadku OpenAI – mają pełną kontrolę nad tym, co jest indeksowane w sieci.
Incydent ten spotkał się z ostrą krytyką ekspertów. Carissa Véliz, etyczka AI z Uniwersytetu Oksfordzkiego, stwierdziła, że jest „zszokowana” całą sytuacją i oceniła, że firmy technologiczne często traktują ogół społeczeństwa jak „króliki doświadczalne”. Wpadka jest tym bardziej dotkliwa, że OpenAI walczy obecnie w sądzie przeciwko nakazowi trwałego przechowywania wszystkich usuniętych czatów użytkowników, co budzi dodatkowe obawy o prywatność.

Ich bin froh, dass die Home Timeline in Mastodon streng chronologisch ist.
Trotzdem wünsche ich mir manchmal auch eine "algorithmische" Timeline, wie sie BlueSky zu haben scheint: Eine, die meine Interessen abbildet. Beispielsweise anhand von Hashtags, die in Posts vorgekommen sind, die ich kürzlich geliked oder geboostet habe.
Beides zu haben, fände ich einen schönen Kompromiss 💪

After 8.5 years my #Matrix homeserver finally has a (password protected) registration page. As a fail-safe it sends me a message whenever a new user is registered.
Also wanted to try interweaving #PHP and #HTML directly instead of using one long <?php ?> block with echoes.
The end result is a little bit messy in some places, but it was fun.

@thibaultamartin I think !selfhosted will.give you some thoughtful responses. I actually agree that if you try to do everything yourself without any input and cooperation with others then yeah you have a hige level of risk but then if you cooperate in groups, use design patterns and templates then self hosting could sort of be like #rooftopsolar - contributing to the whole - its that balance of leaning in and leaning back. Thats why I am interested in things like a combo / drop in router - home server combo that could be used by every day people and things like federated backup. But as you say it requires the organisational as well as technical models. Thats how I got interested in things like #creditunions where they can potentially avoid the problem of third interests that drive #enshitification. I think that #opensource software, legal and process designs are useful.

Et je crois que ça se voit, un piqué dégueulasse et couplé à la simulation de film Classic Chrome, on a vraiment ce look « jetable ». C’est rigolo, mais quand je pense que des boutiques vendent ça 40€… C’est juste une lentille en plastique dans un adaptateur plastique, pas de mise au point, ouverture fixe f/10 et focale 32mm 😅 Vraiment, ça ne vaut pas plus de 15€
🇬🇧 I “treated” myself with the so called Oreo lens at Ali for 13 or 15€. For those who doesn’t know it, it is the lens on disposable cameras fitted for any mount you need. And I think that it shows, the sharpness is far from being medium, and associated with the film simulation Classic Chrome, we really have this “disposable” look. It’s fun, but when I think some stores sell it 40€… It’s just a plastic lens in a plastic adaptor frame, no focus, fixed aperture at f/10 and 32mm focal length 😅 No really, it does not worth more than 15€

Installation
Check out Hollo’s latest code from GitHub:

Install the dependencies using pnpm:
pnpm install
Create a PostgreSQL user and database for Hollo:
createuser --createdb --pwprompt hollo
createdb --username=hollo --encoding=utf8 --template=postgres hollo
Create a configuration file for Hollo:

Once you’ve installed Hollo, you need to configure it. Open the .env file you created earlier and adjust the environment variables.

Starting the server
To start the server, run the following command:

Looks like #hollo is easier to install than #Akkoma
It using #NodeJS doesn't exactly elevate it over it tho.
And the way threads are displayed is not very satisfying yet.

Viele, die erstmals mit Friendica in Kontakt kommen, wundern sich, warum ihre persönliche Timeline mit der Zeit so viel reichhaltiger und meinungsbunter wird als die Timelines anderer Fediverse-Nutzer. Das liegt daran, dass Friendica ein besonderes Konzept verfolgt.
Zum Einen: Es gibt nicht die eine Timeline, sondern viele.
So ist es möglich die eingehenden Beiträge nach
- Aktivität - sortiert nach Reaktionen/Kommentare
- Empfangen - sortiert nach Eingangszeitpunkt (am Server)
- Erstellung - sortiert nach Erstellungszeitpunkt (durch Nutzende)
zu sortieren und damit verschiedene Chronologien zu nutzen.
Zum Anderen: Mit jeden neuen Kontakt wird auch die Timeline vielfältiger.
In deiner Timeline werden dir auch Beiträge von Kontakten angezeigt, mit denen du nicht unmittelbar im Kontakt stehst.
Der Grund ist, dass Friendica dir nicht nur Interaktionen anzeigt, die von deinen Kontakten gestartet wurden, sondern auch Beiträge, in denen deine Kontakte mit anderen Nutzern interagiert haben. Das Schöne daran ist, dass du so immer wieder mit neuen Impulsen konfrontiert wirst und die Gefahr sinkt, in deiner eigenen Blase gefangen zu sein.
Selbstverständlich kannst du diese Meinungsvielfalt deaktivieren. In diesem Fall funktioniert Friendica wie jede andere Software im Fediverse und zeigt dir nur Beiträge von Kontakten, mit denen du dich austauschen möchtest.
Zum Letzten: Mit Channels/Kanälen zur eigenen, individuellen Timeline
Wem die Standard-Timelines von Friendica nicht ausreichen, kann vollständig eigene Kanäle erstellen. Wer sich gerne mit den Themen Kochen, Informatik, Geschichte oder Politik etc. auseinandersetzen möchte, kann sich themenreine Kanäle anlegen.
Fazit: Diese und die weiteren Möglichkeiten von Friendica machen die Anwendung zu etwas Besonderem. Dadurch hebt sie sich nicht nur von den verschiedenen Fedi-Plattformen, sondern auch von den gewöhnlichen Konzepten, wie sie im Internet gelebt werden, ab. Wer dieses Konzept einmal verstanden hat, möchte keine andere Plattform mehr nutzen.

Чувствуешь себя гостем на чужой тусовке. До недавнего времени искусственный интеллект для меня был чем-то вроде магии: умным, недоступным, предназначенным только для программистов в худи. Но однажды я поймала себя на мысли: почему они могут, а я — нет? Как это часто бывает, сразу накрыла волна сомнений и страхов: «Это ведь только для технарей», «я же гуманитарий», «вдруг не получится», «а если я не смогу и я всё брошу?» — эти вопросы не давали мне покоя. Однако, несмотря на это, я подошла к коллеге с вопросом: — Слушай, а если я гуманитарий, у меня вообще есть шанс работать с ИИ? Он улыбнулся и ответил: — Конечно. Начни с промпт-инжиниринга. «Промпт… чего?» — удивилась я. Впоследствии именно эта фраза стала отправной точкой моего мини-путешествия в мир ИИ. Во мне разыгрался азарт: а в смысле другие могут, а я нет? Надо пробовать!

TLDR: I'm working on a #P2P messaging #webapp. Webapps are generally not considered secure because of the nature of serving statics over the internet. This is correct, but not a limitation of this project. (#selfhosting options: https://positive-intentions.com/blog/docker-ios-android-desktop).
As a webapp, I can provide the app with zero-installation and no-registration. The app is only using (local-only) browser storage (specifically #indexedDB). So in a P2P interaction, the traditional concept of "the cloud" is just the physical devices connected over #WebRTC. Future:
I'm aiming to create the most secure messaging app out there... (more than #Signal, #Simplex, #threema, #session, #deltachat, #bitchat, etc). I know I have a long way to go to get there. The UI is fairly ugly for the average user, but I think the mechanics are working as expected. I think #JavaScript is underrated in what you can do with it. I'm actively investigating improving the #encryption approach further to align to how the Signal protocol works (currently using a #DiffieHellman key-exchange).

In the age of #ChatControl, I would like to keep this project #opensource, but open-source funding is not working for me. I don't want your donations (but don't let that stop you) because it isn't sustainable for a long-term project. I have so far only experienced grant-funding rejections. I have no idea what I'm doing in trying to get funding for this project, so any support/advice is appreciated. In recognition of the project in its current state not being able to get funding... (sorry) I will have to go #closedsource (which I'd like to avoid because it undermines several #cybersecurity claims I'd like to make). I don't accept collaboration on the project because this would make tough decisions like going closed-source also immoral.

All I want to do is spend money, but Paypal doesn't have a functional "security check". I login, using the correct password (or an incorrect one!?) and it says it's performing a "quick security check" which never completes, or if it does show a reCAPTCHA, doesn't do anything after I've passed it.
Sigh.
Why?
After far too much stuffing around, it turns out that the secret to logging into Paypal is to go through the "forgotten password" flow first.
