Studio still out of action since last November’s flood. It’s been gutted for months, but no sign of rebuild starting. The insurance claim just gets bounced around between Companies; Insurers, assessors, builders, everyone passing the buck, and nothing moves. Some good folks are trying, but they seem powerless.
Meanwhile, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, had surgery, radiotherapy, years of meds ahead. It all feels surreal. I just want to be in my studio. It’s deeply frustrating.
If UK companies are like this, the UK is in more trouble than I thought. RSA is the insurer, they’re pulling out of the domestic market, and don’t seem to care about their reputation. I’ve contacted their CEO, Ken Norwood, twice, which led to complaints opened and closed, reopened, but no real progress. I could go to the ombudsman, but who wants that hassle? What I want is for someone to put a rocket under this whole process and get my studio sorted.

That UI is a hard problem to solve well, but some mashup between #ActivityPub and a web of trust -- a #Mastodon-like system where all posts are encrypted but all posts by people who trusted you are decryptable -- is possible.

VDPTypes is a Python library that assists in generating VDU protocol data for the Agon computing platform's VDP (Visual Display Processor). It supports Console8 as of version 2.12.0, minus some experimental API calls. Not all calls have yet been tested.
Contributions are appreciated, my bandwidth to work on Agon projects is limited.
VDPTypes is a support library made for customized build scripts, asset conversion, and development of VDP buffer programs. It includes:
* Utility code for loading and converting assets to VDP formats
* VDP-IL, an intermediate language for VDU commands using Python data structures, giving them some syntax and automatic checking
* Code generation for several language targets on Agon (unfinished)

It is always badly drawn cartoon character who yaps constantly, or someone just drawing some realistic landscape with some speed-ups, or some hyperrealistic vomit, or some video that captures a genuinely good street art but just rely on such sincere expression which comes out as faux-sincere.
The art criticism meanwhile is much better, surprisingly. The Canvas is one of my favorites.

Also, in that thread... kept on deleting some Fediverse accounts the last days, left Calckey and Hubzilla behind for now. Not that I dislike these, specifically Hubzilla is still a great tool but I ... notice a lack of energy to keep up with all of them, a lack of energy, too, to handle too much federated platforms and stuff right at the moment. Noticed some federation glitches during account deletion, too, which ones again leaves me wondering but well here we are. Also, once again, tiptoeing around #wordpress and the idea to 'just' use that for all my publication and federation needs, still unsure though whether this is worth the effort. Also, currently, I'm just way too often just back to leaving stars (or likes or however this is being displays on connected platforms) and reshares because I totally fail to keep up with all conversations that seem of interest to me here. Not a good thing for sure but hard to get this changed, right now.

Das kommt ganz darauf an, wo jeder Einzelne die Grenze zieht.
Ab 2004 habe ich Facebook genutzt, ab 2006 Twitter, bevor ich ganz allgemein in das Fediverse gewechselt bin.
Ich ziehe keine so rigorose Grenze, auch Diaspora zum Beispiel gehört irgendwie für mich dazu, obwohl es außer zu sich selber und Friendica und Hubzille keine Verbindung zu anderen Systemen aufnehmen kann.
Ich betrachte alle, auch #Bluesky, als soziale Netzwerke, und teste sie auch aus dieser Perspektive.

Uno de mis gustos culposos adquiridos post-pandemia es escuchar en Youtube traducciones al castellano de historias sacadas del hilo de Redit o Subredit Humanity, Fuck Yeah! (HFY para abreviar). En estas, con un claro sesgo especista, abundan las grandilocuentes donde los extraterrestres descubren la grandeza de la Humanidad al más puro estilo de la Ópera Espacial del siglo pasado. No sorprende que sean los estadounidenses de los más activos allí, con sus antecedentes de destinos manifiestos y excepcionalidades «americanas». Son narraciones que siento como fantasías de poder compartida.
Sin embargo, por sobre muchos clichés que abundan en ellas, de vez en cuando alguna va de las salas de consejos interplanetarios, cruceros espaciales titánicos y brillos de supernovas… a aterrizar en personajes pequeños y sus mundanas historias dentro de universos algo más ricos. Cuando encuentro este tipo de narraciones, le pongo algo más de atención.
Una de esas historias es esta que, en tono cómico, trata de un extraterrestre de tipo oso, Utgar, que luego de perder la mayor parte de su patrimonio en una apuesta muy improbable conoce a un humano veterano de guerra. Ambos hacen migas y, a cambio de un alojamiento básico, el humano apoya al ursoide en su negocio de chatarrería. Así, logra contactar a Utgar con el colorido representante de una tribu humana conocida como Gargantas Naranjas, que no son otra cosa que rednecks espaciales, hasta con narrativa semi-libertaria incluida, y que entre tragos y el común desafío de estar casados, hacen un trato ventajoso para ambas partes.

Esforzándose en darle variedad a los temas de sus videos, el canal de Youtube WATOP y su versión en castellano hacen un bastante detallado reportaje de los túneles del narco que unen México y EEUU y que estas organizaciones criminales usan para el tráfico de personas de distinta condición, y el de drogas. Depeche Mode fue un grupo británico de música electrónica que saltó a la fama en los años 1980s, y que fue sino el más exitoso uno de los más exitosos representantes de su género, con éxitos como Enjoy the Silence o Personal Jesus. Sin embargo, dentro de su discografía aunque no tan mainstream, su sencillo de 1986 Stripped de alguna manera supo ganarse un lugar entre sus fans de hueso colorado, por su estilo más oscuro que fue un punto de inflexión en el desarrollo musical de la banda, una de las más influyentes de la escena.

Allí eligieron versionar Stripped, además de lanzarlo por su cuenta en un sencillo y producir para él un videoclip que fue en su momento controversial por usar imágenes sacadas de la película Olympia, dirigida en la década de los 1930’s por Leni Riefenstahl, la llamada cineasta de Hitler. Ese cover fue el que conocí luego de que descubriera a Rammstein (vía Pussy) y se volviera parte del soundtrack de mi vida, arrastrando así con ellos a Depeche Mode. Cosas de las asociaciones artísticas. Y eso es todo, sólo me apeteció compartir esta buena canción, el original, otras versiones que le hicieron y ya puestos, el tributo que gatillo todo.
