It was a challenge, now in the final stage to migrate packages which trigger rebuild of >1%of all available ones on python-team branch.
Strategy so far: stabilise build for >1%, stabilise build for packages with >10 inputs, hopefully it would cover the majority of the graph.

Controlled windows laptop, developing against a product using #python 3.12.10. They have their own library we'll need up on pypi.
Python 3.13 installs. Let's pip install uv and give that a try. Installing the product library, dependencies, ... pendulum. No wheel file present. Goes to build -- no rust. 🤔
Rust install? License for the MS linker and build tools? Nah... GNU ABI? Yolo -- give it a go. rustup-init.sh ... fails. It's installing locally, yes, but then it's trying to rename files it's downloaded -- BLOCKED. Probably sending alerts to the SOC to deal with later... 🤔
Just a plain pip install package? Dependency pendulum again... Search: Is there a wheel somewhere? Interesting: ongoing bug that pendulum won't compile under 3.13. They've been working on it...
OK, can I just install Python 3.12? NO! Python 3.12 is bug-fix-only -- no binaries provided. 🤔
pyenv? pip install pyenv-win installs locally. pyenv install --list shows up through python 3.11. pyenv update to get the new list? NO! pyenv update command is not supported? WTF?!? Searching... Ah. github issues has that in there over the last month. Windows upgrades from 10 to 11 apparently messed something up. For people with legacy stuff that survived the update, no problem. For fresh 11? Broken. An active issue since June-ish.
Docker and similar -- of course not allowed.

Say what you want about #chatgpt , but it has saved by butt right now. Bought an el-cheapo USB panel light that came with a desk mount (I now have 3 of the same type of those cheap desk mount, those work rathel well IMO). The panel light had an 1/4" thread insert while the desk mount I received with it had a male 3/8" threaded pin. This means I can't screw the panel on to the provided desk mount.
Asked ChatGPT to create an adapter using OpenSCAD (pictured). One go, straight to the 3D printer, first model using PLA was FLAWLESS. This saved me the hassle of either asking for support/refund or finding an overpriced adapter on online stores.
Total cost of filament: 0,11$ CAD, 0.08$ USD.
I still get the same feeling of excitement like when I discovered the "world wide web" back then for things that magically works like this situation.

Question for anyone who knows about this. Every subdomain of this site (which is only two at the moment) is exposed via Cloudflare Tunnel directly. So it takes the place of the reverse proxy. I'm sure I could set up Nginx as well, and point Cloudflare tunnel at it instead of at the subdomains individually. Is there any real advantage to doing it this way, in terms of performance, or security, or whatever? Would doing it this way allow me to do anything worthwhile, I can't do with my current setup.

Dear #TikTok: I like the idea of a community (foot)notes feature. However... researching stuff on-device is a pain in the ass, *especially* when you're on a memory-constrained device that swaps out the TikTok app the moment you load up the webview to examine a purported source for a footnote (upon exiting the webview, the footnote you were viewing is... gone). Put the review stuff on the desktop website so that it can be properly analyzed and vetted.

Use #Matrix and Element if you need multimedia Discord like features. #Reddit has a lot of the same phylogenetic and vestigial cultural artifacts and patterns as #4chan, and many Reddit subs use #Discord as their communities. Because server invites propagate via peers, behavioral patterns and clusters similar to #4chan spread rapidly.
Considering the "filters" people have to pass through and the checks they have to continually pass, it is a cesspool.

Właśnie sobie uświadomiłem, że w niedzielę minął rok odkąd dołączyłem do instancji pol.social i na poważnie zacząłem korzystać z #fediverse. Wcześniej miałem profil na mastodon.social, ale krótko i nie korzystałem z niego zbyt aktywnie. Posłużył mi jako konto zwiadowcze do powolnego eksplorowania tego świata.
Po odkryciu pol.social i założeniu tu konta sytuacja się zmieniła. Najbardziej uderzyło mnie to, jak bardzo otwarta na dyskusję jest społeczność tutaj. Nie znam żadnego innego medium społecznościowego, w którym właściwie żadna wiadomość nie pozostawałaby bez odpowiedzi. Czasami były to wygłupy lub pomoc w rozwiązaniu problemu, innym razem konstruktywne dyskusje na argumenty (z którymi nie zawsze się zgadzałem, ale szanowałem je i kilka razy otworzyły mi głowę).
Ze wszystkimi tego typu rozmowami się spotkałem i doświadczyłem ich także pod swoimi wpisami, za co bardzo wam dziękuję.
Przez ten rok wziąłem tu udział chyba w większej liczbie rozmów niż przez kilkanaście lat na Twitterze.
To jest niesamowite, jak mała społeczność potrafi być silna swoim zaangażowaniem i otwartością w stosunku do innych użytkowników - całkowicie jej nieznanych.
Ja właśnie taką osobą byłem tworząc konto na pol.social. Nie znałem tu nikogo. Z osób, które są obecne w fediverse znałem dosłownie kilka. Wyłącznie z ich aktywności w sieci. Żadnej osobiście. Zaczynałem całkowicie od zera nie wiedząc, czego mógłbym oczekiwać, ani czego się spodziewać.
Dzisiaj Mastodon to mój najważniejszy serwis społecznościowy. Pokazał mi, że lepszy Internet nadal istnieje, tylko przez lata był nieco schowany (gdzie, u licha, wyście się podziewali przed erą Mastodona?). Cieszę się, że tu trafiłem i poznałem was wszystkich.
Dziękuję za to, że tu się rozmawia, a nie obrzuca gównem i topi w szambie. Dzięki, że nie zalewacie tego miejsca niepotrzebnie generowanymi przez AI grafikami i shitcontentem, który zalewa Internet.
Fajnie tu być.

Das Ziel ist es, #ActivityPub Objekte um etwa 80% zu komprimieren. Das Resultat ist ein UInt8Array für alle naturalLanguage-Texte. Andere Sprachen können aus Corpora generiert werden.
Es bietet sich insbesondere für ältere oder wenig genutzte Objekte an.
Das Resultat im Demo ist etwa 25% des Originals. Ich weiss halt nicht, ob das gut ist.
