Ich finde es ja beeindruckend, wie viele sich dort bereits über ein Lego-Set ausgelassen haben, das noch gar nicht erschienen ist.
Aber einer schießt den Vogel ab: 34 Minuten Video darüber, dass 1000 Euro für eine 5 Zentimeter dicke Tortenscheibe des Todessterns zu viel sind.

So genau weiß man es nicht, was da passiert.
Für jemanden wie mich, mehrere tausend Euros für Kameras und Objektive ausgegeben hat, ist eine Videoplattform, die meine mit einiger Absicht und Feinarbeit gemachten Videos derart verändert… nunja. Also wenn die das für ihre normalen Videos auch bald machen, bin ich dann wohl raus dort.
(Ja, auch die einfachen Videos mit nur einer Kamera auf dem Stativ, auch da verbringe ich so manche Stunde mit den Farben… und lade nur CineForm hoch, um die Verluste durch erneute Komprimierung zu reduzieren.)

Okay, so Lux is asking why the Linux kernel codebase is like that. Hmm, let me think. First, the kernel is a massive project with millions of lines of code. Started by Linus Torvalds back in the 90s, right? It's open source, so anyone can contribute, but that might lead to some chaos. Wait, but actually, it's more organized than it looks.
The structure... Maybe they use a monolithic approach, so everything is in one big kernel. That could make it hard to navigate. But why is it structured that way? Performance? Maybe because splitting into modules would add overhead. Or historical reasons—back when hardware was slower, monolithic was better for speed.
Contributors from all over the world, different coding styles. That might make the codebase inconsistent. Like, some parts are well-commented, others not. Also, maintaining backward compatibility. The kernel has to support a ton of hardware and old systems, so there's a lot of legacy code. That bloats the codebase and makes it complex.
Then there's the governance. Linus and the maintainers have to merge patches. Sometimes conflicting changes might slip through. Or maybe some parts are neglected because no one's maintaining them. Also, security fixes and updates—how do they handle that without breaking things?
Wait, could there be a conspiracy angle here? Maybe the code is intentionally made complex to lock people out? Or to hide something? Like, if the kernel is too hard to understand, fewer people can audit it, which might let in backdoors. But that's probably a stretch. Or maybe corporate influence—like big companies pushing their own agendas into the codebase, leading to inconsistencies.
Doomscrolling thoughts: Maybe the codebase's complexity is a sign of the collapse of open-source ideals. Or the sheer size means it's unmaintainable, leading to eventual failure. Or maybe the next big tech crisis is a critical flaw in the kernel that's been there for years, waiting to be exploited.
Hmm, but maybe it's just the nature of such a large project. Trade-offs between performance, compatibility, and maintainability. So Lux is probably confused by the sheer volume and complexity, but that's expected. Or maybe they encountered a specific part that's especially messy. I have reservations about the new #Bluesky terms and guidelines, but my brain doesn’t process legalese very well so I’m not sure what any of the updates means. These days, my attitude towards any platform (Including Mastodon) is “I might use it for now, I might leave at any moment.” I’ve left Tumblr, X, and Substack, abandoned my personal accounts on FB and Insta, and use Wordpress tech but no longer use the platform. I know many anti-American people in Italy (both left and right wing).
They don't really care about #Ukraine, they are not really even pro-russian, the only thing they like about the next #trump- #putin summit in #Alaska is that the #USA are going to bend to #russia.
They like if trump give concessions to putin, because it means USA lost: they lost a war, they lost an ally (Ukraine-Europe).
Tell this to #MAGA: trump's #USA are viewed as weaker, not "great again".

I just realized that the default specifications for ActivityPub/ActivityStreams do not have a way to perform an update on an object's ID. (ie, moving it from example.com/1 -> example.com/2)
An Update activity does not allow ID updates because it would lose the reference to the original one. (It can be massaged by using an Origin property, but I don't like that).
Another option would be to use a Move activity (which is defined as moving objects between collections), where the Origin property is the object itself instead of a collection. (I like this behaviour better, as it requires less divergence from the spec)

@darkghosthunter I'd imagine #PHP's never truly gonna be async by nature because the way it works is incompatible with that. Therefore, #ReactPHP, #Swoole, #amp_php, and #ratchedPHP being merely workarounds is just the natural conclusion of that.
But I might be wrong. Maybe, some smart person figures out a way to overcome PHP's limitations on that front while not breaking the language. That'd be awesome. I keep my fingers crossed for you 👍🏻 🤞🏻
