Im Anschluss entpuppen die sich sogar als Waffenhändler für hilfsbereite Nachbarn, die das Ganze nicht mit ansehen können.
Am Ende hilft die "Polizei" dem Aggressor, weil der wirtschaftlich mehr zu bieten hat; unter anderem die Besitztümer des Überfallenen...

Ich liebe das Fediverse.
Die Idee eines dezentralen sozialen Netzwerks mit spezialisierten, aber verbundenen Diensten und gemeinsamer Verwaltung ist großartig; die Abwesenheit von Werbung und algorithmer Bevormundung wirkt befreiend. Seit 2018 bin ich dort aktiv – nur auf Twitter war ich länger unterwegs (2010–2023).
Trotzdem überlege ich derzeit ernsthaft, meine Accounts zu schließen und es einfach sein zu lassen.
Der Anlass (oder der Tropfen, der das Fass vielleicht zum Überlaufen bringt) ist eine Moderationsentscheidung auf photog.social. Dort hatte ich 2022 ein neues Zuhause für meinen Fotomenschen-Account eingerichtet und lebe meine Fotoleidenschaft aus. Vor kurzem gab es dort einen Moderatorenwechsel, und mit diesem Wechsel wurden Anpassungen vorgenommen. Diejenige, die mir am meisten aufstößt, ist die Entscheidung, mastodon.social auszublenden. Konkret bedeutet das: In den öffentlichen Timelines oder unter Hashtags auf photog.social tauchen keine Accounts von mastodon.social mehr auf. Das Argument des Moderatorenteams: Auf mastodon.social gäbe es zu viel Hatespeech und Spam, und man müsse die Community, insbesondere Minderheiten, davor schützen.
Oh my.
Ich selbst bin ein weißer cis Mann, lebe in einem westlichen Land, habe ein verhältnismäßig sicheres Einkommen und bin bei guter Gesundheit. Sprich: Ich bin privilegiert bis über beide Ohren und kann nur begrenzt einschätzen, welchen Schutz besagte Minderheiten wirklich brauchen.
Eines aber weiß ich mit Sicherheit: Der Großteil der Leute auf mastodon.social sind friedliche Fedizens. Da mastodon.social das Netzwerk ist, dem sich viele – besonders Newcomer – anschließen, ist es auch die Heimat vieler Fotobegeisterter und eine Quelle bereichernder Interaktionen. Man kann also mit Sicherheit sagen, dass ein nennenswerter Teil der mastodon.social-Fedizens sogar zu jenen Minderheiten gehört, die das photog.social-Team vorgibt, schützen zu wollen.
Das Ausblenden dieses Servers ist nichts anderes als das Stummschalten eines beträchtlichen Teils der Community. Konnte man zuvor Accounts dort entdecken, indem man gezielt Hashtags verfolgte oder in der föderierten Timeline stöberte, ist genau das für Mitglieder von photog.social plötzlich nicht mehr möglich. Doch genau solche Taktiken sind in der Fotocommunity des Fediverse üblich: Hashtags wie FensterFreitag, MountainMonday oder FotoVorschlag dienen dazu, andere Fotograf:innen zu finden und sich mit ihnen zu vernetzen. All das geht nun nicht mehr von photog.social aus.
Doch selbst wenn man das in Kauf nehmen wollte, gibt es einen weiteren Punkt, der mich an dieser Moderationsentscheidung aufregt: die himmelschreiende, paternalistische Bevormundung. Das Moderatorenteam behauptet schlicht, besser zu wissen als die Nutzer:innen ihres Servers, welche Inhalte durch die öffentlichen Feeds laufen sollen. Was für eine Anmaßung! Vor direkten Angriffen war man auch bisher nicht gefeit – doch wenn ich als Nutzer bewusst ins globale Fediverse eintauchen will, entscheidet plötzlich ein Team, das für eine gesamte Instanzcommunity, die es nicht gefragt hat, den Großteil der Metacommunity stummschaltet, der diese Community ja ebenfalls angehört.
Mit anderen Worten: Wer wie ich klassische Social Media verlassen hat, um der Bevormundung durch Algorithmen zu entgehen, wird nun von einem Moderatorenteam bevormundet. Und in der Diskussion tun die Verantwortlichen so, als wäre das nur zu unser aller Bestem – wer darauf hinweist, dass diese Filterung zu weit geht, macht sich praktisch schuldig, Minderheiten Schutz zu verwehren.
Tatsächlich offenbart diese Entwicklung eine grundsätzliche Schwäche des Fediverse: Entweder man schließt sich einer der großen Instanzen an, oder – wenn man das tut, was eigentlich zu den Stärken des Ansatzes zählt, nämlich sich einer spezialisierten Community anzuschließen – liefert man sich den möglicherweise umschwenkenden Entscheidungen eines Moderatorenteams aus. Ich möchte eigentlich nicht auf mastodon.social sein – ich bin dorthin gewechselt, weil ich die Entscheidungen des Moderatorenteams auf chaos.social nicht mehr mittragen konnte. Und jetzt stelle ich fest, dass es mir auf photog.social genauso geht. Nach drei Jahren Mitgliedschaft steht dieselbe Frage im Raum.
“Hoste doch selbst”, wirft gelegentlich jemand ein. Ja, klar. Man könnte. Aber ich will nicht – und es ist auch nicht wirklich realistisch.
“Zieh einfach weiter”, raten andere. Das habe ich bisher auch so gehandhabt, immerhin geht das ja. Letztlich passiert dann aber genau das, was eigentlich nicht im Sinne des Fediverse ist: eine Konzentration auf wenige, große Instanzen – mit allen damit verbundenen Nachteilen.
Ich glaube, ich komme allmählich an einen ganz anderen Punkt. Die Versuchung wächst, das Kapitel einfach zu schließen und vielleicht eine Weile ganz auf Social Media zu verzichten. Es ist ja nicht so, dass mein Leben leer wäre, wenn ich mich nicht über Leute ärgere, die ich gar nicht kenne.
