Every #chat app, and more, should have a setting for "Send on Enter" #YesNo
Even better if there is a system setting for this behaviour. That apps can follow like is done for dark/light theme.
And, of course, accompanied with a visual clue showiing what the input-field uses.
There is so much #UX improvements to gain if more input settings and behaviours could be sett om system level, overrideable locally if needed of course.

KI, Kinder, Kulturkampf: Eine Woche zwischen ernsthaften Fragen und bloßem Theater
Diese Woche in meiner Wochenschau: Von digitalen Schutzschildern gegen KI-Fakes bis zu hitzigen Debatten um Smartphone- und Social-Media-Verbote für Kinder. Dazu die kontroversen Vorschläge von Politikern wie Daniel Günther oder Cem Özdemir – und die Kritik nicht nur aus der Medienpädagogik, die auf Bildung statt Verbote setzt. Außerdem blicke ich auf medienpolitische Schlagzeilen, vom Genderverbot des Kulturstaatsministers über das fragwürdige Verhalten der FAZ gegenüber Brosius-Gersdorf bis zur noch fragwürdigeren Gesprächsführung von ARD und ZDF in Sommerinterviews mit der AfD. Ich schaue auf den neuen Bildfilter von DuckDuckGo, der helfen soll, echte von künstlichen Bildern zu unterscheiden. Und natürlich: ein Blick über den Atlantik, wo Trump erneut die politische Bühne zur Reality-Show umfunktioniert.
Kill Switch zur Erkennung von KI-generierten Inhalten
Eine Flut von KI-generierten Inhalten überschwemmt das Netz. Wir drohen in einem Meer aus “AI Slop“, digitalem, KI-generiertem Müll zu ersticken. Ok, ich bin da auch mitschuldig, wenn man sich meine Titelbilder anschaut, hoffe aber, dass die zu ertragen sind. Doch überall tauchen unterdessen Fake-Inhalte aller Art auf unseren Bildschirmen auf. DuckDuckGo (meine Standardsuchmaschine) reagiert darauf mit einem sogenannten Kill Switch für KI-Bilder: Nutzer können künftig in der Bildersuche KI-generierte Bilder gezielt ausblenden. Klingt simpel, ist aber ein wichtiger Schritt gegen die Vermischung von echten und synthetischen Inhalten.
Was interessieren mich Bilder, mag der ein oder andere fragen. Natürlich ist dies nur ein erster Schritt, aber ein guter Schritt, wenn solche Möglichkeiten auch in Richtung Texte, Suchergebnisse, Videos, Musik oder Rezensionen ausgebaut werden. Man wird nicht alle KI-generierten Fake-Inhalte erkennen können; ich denke aber, dass wir solche Funktionalitäten brauchen. Jeder sollte damit selbst entscheiden, ob und wie viel KI er in seinem Netzalltag toleriert. DuckDuckGo’s Bild-Filter ist eine Art Schutzschild gegen die Überschwemmung von Fake-Content – und zeigt, dass Datenschutz und Kontrolle kein Widerspruch sein müssen.
Jugendlichen Social Media und Smartphone verbieten?
Mit Interesse verfolge ich die Diskussion rund um Smartphone- und Social-Media-Verbote, die gerade heiß geführt wird. Eltern, Politikerinnen und Politiker, sogenannte Expertinnen und Experten streiten mal wieder, ob Smartphone- und Social-Media-Verbote unsere Kinder vor den digitalen Abgründen retten können.
Schleswig-Holsteins Ministerpräsident Daniel Günther (CDU) fordert ein Verbot sozialer Medien für unter 16-Jährige, weil die psychische Gesundheit junger Menschen „in der Krise“ sei. Auch der Grünen-Politiker Cem Özdemir unterstützt die Idee eines Verbots für Kinder unter 16 Jahren. Die Leopoldina empfiehlt strikte Einschränkungen: Kein Social Media vor 13, kein Smartphone an Schulen bis Klasse 10 – warum? Weil die psychische Gesundheit junger Menschen gefährdet ist.
Diese „Vorsorge“-Mentalität stößt auf heftige Kritik aus der Medienpädagogik. Experten warnen vor einem „fachfremden Populismus“ und verweisen darauf, dass Verbote meist nur Symptome bekämpfen, ohne die wirklichen Ursachen zu adressieren. Statt die digitale Welt auszublenden, bräuchten Kinder und Jugendliche vor allem eines: kompetente Begleitung und Bildung. Fachleute und Verbände wie das Deutsche Kinderhilfswerk fordern laut nach einer Bildungsrevolution, die Medienkompetenz systematisch fördert – von den Kindergärten bis in die Schulen.
Wir haben keine Kinder, stehen also nicht vor den Herausforderungen. Doch neige ich dazu, eher auf Begleitung und Bildung zu setzen, auch damit die jungen Leute früh notwendige digitale Kompetenzen erwerben. Vielleicht auch mal ein Thema für #9vor9 und Papabär Lars.

Ich bin ein großer Fan und Leser von Altpapier, der täglich erscheinenden Medienkolumne des MDR, wo regelmäßig aktuelle und wichtige Themen aus der Medienwelt behandelt und kommentiert werden. Ob es um die Auseinandersetzung der FAZ mit Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf geht, um den nicht genderwilligen Kulturkampfminister Weimer oder darum, wie ARD und ZDF der AfD eine Bühne bieten – immer wieder greifen die Autorinnen und Autoren relevante Themen auf und ordnen die Themen ein. Für mich Prädikat besonders wertvoll.

Man fragt sich wirklich, in welchem Jahrtausend wir leben, wenn Kulturstaatsminister Wolfram Weimer ein Genderverbot in seiner Behörde einführt und allen öffentlich geförderten Institutionen empfiehlt, es ihm gleichzutun. Sogar im Öffentlich-Rechtlichen Rundfunk soll der „Genderzwang“ jetzt kein Thema mehr sein – obwohl ein solcher Zwang nie existierte. Meine Meinung: Hier werden populistische Scheingefechte geführt, statt sich auf wirklich wichtige Themen zu konzentrieren. Jeder soll so reden und schreiben, wie er oder sie mag.
Versagen des ÖRR bei AfD-Interviews
Bei einem anderen Thema bekomme ich mehr Puls: Die jüngsten Sommerinterviews zeigen, wie ARD und ZDF immer öfter auf dem Auge blind sind, wenn es um die Verbreitung rechter Parolen geht. Während das ARD-Interview mit Alice Weidel noch von Störungen geprägt war, lief das Gespräch mit AfD-Chef Tino Chrupalla im ZDF glatt – und das nicht zum Vorteil der demokratischen Debatte. Fragen zur realen Regierungsfähigkeit oder zur gesellschaftlichen Bedeutung der AfD fehlen, und falsche Behauptungen und Lügen bleiben unangetastet im Raum stehen. Ist das noch demokratischer Journalismus oder schon Versagen der Öffentlich-Rechtlichen?
Versagen der FAZ im Fall Brosius-Gersdorf
Es gibt Autoren wie Berthold Kohler oder Jasper von Altenbockum der FAZ, bei deren rechtskonservativen Beiträgen und Kommentaren ich mich regelmäßig ärgere. Die Berichte, Artikel und Kommentare der FAZ rund um Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf sind für mich aber jetzt der Gipfel, nein, der absolute Abgrund. Es ist schlicht eine Frechheit, Brosius-Gersdorf eine inszenierte Opferrolle vorzuwerfen. Statt über Informantenschutz zu schwafeln, sollte sich die FAZ selbst und ihren Journalismus in diesem Fall ins Frage stellen: einseitige Berichterstattung, fehlende Kontextualisierung, keine Rückfrage bei den Betroffenen. Note: Mangelhaft. Solche unlautere Berichterstattung lässt mich daran zweifeln, ob wir die FAZ weiter abonnieren sollten.
Meinungsfreiheit à la Trump
Die Trump-Regierung hat mal wieder geliefert: In ihrem neuesten Menschenrechtsbericht attestiert sie Deutschland eine bröckelnde Meinungsfreiheit und steigenden Antisemitismus – letzterer soll laut Washington vor allem durch Migration verursacht werden. Das klingt mehr nach Verschwörungstheorie als nach seriöser Politikbeobachtung. Willkommen zurück in der Trump’schen Reality-Show, wo Fakten zur Nebensache werden und absurde Narrative das Zepter schwingen.
Das Ganze passt perfekt zu dem, was wir im #9vor9-Podcast besprochen haben: Trump inszeniert sich und seine Narrative als politisches Spektakel, das Fakten verbiegt und mit Schlagzeilen spielt. Auch die Behauptungen von Zensur durch das deutsche Gesetz gegen Hasskommentare sind Teil des Tricks, um Medien und politische Gegner mundtot zu machen – ganz im Sinne des „Great Television“-Prinzips, das Trump so meisterhaft beherrscht.

Nice little piece on prompt engineering. My additional remark would be that you are hooked to some (paying) service, which is a liability, financially and creatively.
Ultimately GPT5 LLMs might run locally on your own device, but those days aren't there yet. And even still, and then again, you will only be as good a prompt engineer as you can afford to be by the tools (model/device) you own.

Auf meinem Fairphone 4 mit Ubuntu Touch benutze ich gerne die Mastodon App. Leider muss ich mich bei dieser App jedes mal neu einloggen wenn ich die App neu starte. Das aber nur bei dieser App so. Woran liegt das? Können die Anmeldedaten nicht gespeichert werden? Bei uMastonauts kann ich das Betriebsystem neu hochfahren und ich muss mich nicht wieder in diese App neu einloggen.

I've looked through FEP-ef61 in the past, and will give it another go. I think I struggled to see how this would be compatible with Mastodon, or other servers without them requiring a pretty big rewrite to support portable objects.
It won't. Especially not with Mastodon.
At the very least, they would have to start to understand portable objects and the concept of nomadic identity, e.g. that
jupiter_rowland@hub.netzgemeinde.eu and jupiter_rowland@hub.hubzilla.de may be on two different accounts, but the exact same channel with the exact same identity, the exact same connections, the exact same content etc.Mastodon has been flipping the bird both at the ActivityPub standard and at FEPs and at the whole rest of the Fediverse since it was made. Eugen Rochko has been trying to EEE the Fediverse since he created Mastodon, the very same thing that people on Mastodon feared that Threads would do. The only time he ever makes compromises is when he is put under pressure by even more powerful players like Automattic or Flipboard, and even then he only throws them tiny bones.
As @Mike Macgirvin ?️ gradually built his nomadic and ActivityPub-based Forte from his own nomadic and Nomad-based streams repository (itself a Hubzilla descendant), and as @silverpill started making his non-nomadic and ActivityPub-based Mitra nomadic, their goal was to expand ActivityPub into something that supports nomadic identity via FEPs and, at the same time, make their own software compatible to these FEPs.
Their goal was not to make their software and these FEPs fully compatible with the Fediverse as it was in 2023/2024 and especially not to build them against Mastodon as it was in 2023/2024 or as it is now.
Especially Mike would never build anything explicitly against Mastodon. Rather, he'd make it possible to block Mastodon from an entire (streams) or Forte server, and he did. To Mike, Mastodon is not the heart and the core and the centre of the Fediverse around everything else orbits and justifiedly so. He rather sees it as a nuisance.
Seriously, nothing that Mike has created will ever be fully compatible with Mastodon, not as long as Mastodon's politics don't change greatly. I mean, client-side support for Mike's own OpenWebAuth magic sign-on was proposed for Mastodon. It went as far as an actual merge request in 2023. They core devs never even looked at that merge request, much less merged it. They silently rejected it.
