If you're using/sharing the Android Comparison by Eylenburg you should probably be aware that this comparison if heavily biased and influenced by the GrapheneOS developers.
More than a quarter of the issues in the related repository have been opened by the lead GOS developer to add oddly specific stuff that is only in favor of GOS. Meanwhile, they interfere in issues raised by other users that could lead to features from other ROMs being added. Intervening in other people's discussions and badmouthing other projects seems to be one of the main tasks of the social media account as well unfortunately. "Some AI researchers say that the overwhelming focus on scaling large language models and transformers — the architecture underpinning the technology which was created by Google in 2016 — has itself had a limiting effect, coming at the expense of other approaches.
“We are entering a phase of diminishing return with pure LLMs trained with text,” says Yann LeCun, Meta’s chief scientist, who is considered one of the “godfathers” of modern AI. “But we are definitely not hitting a ceiling with deep-learning-based AI systems trained to understand the real world through video and other modalities.”
These so-called world models are trained on elements of the physical world beyond language, and are able to plan, reason and have persistent memory. The new architecture could yet drive forward progress in self-driving cars, robotics or even sophisticated AI assistants.
“There are huge areas for improvement . . . but we need new strategies to get [there],” says Joelle Pineau, the former Meta AI research lead now chief AI officer at start-up Cohere. “Simply continuing to add compute and targeting theoretical AGI won’t be enough.”"

То ли я криворукий, то ли все эти инструменты ещё далеки от совершенства. В итоге понял, что мне проще накидать свой собственный велосипед — скрипт на Python (~200 строк). Решил выложить, может, кому‑то пригодится. Скрипту можно скормить три скриншота сайта: 1) Десктоп‑версия 2) Планшет 3) Мобильная версия На выходе получим одну HTML‑адаптивную вёрстку (десктоп, планшет, мобила) с использованием Tailwind CSS .

Why Did The US Raise The Terrorist Designation For A Group Of Anti-Chinese Militants In Pakistan?
One would think that the US would consider such a group to be an ally in its New Cold War with China.
The US’ systemic rivalry with China over the contours of the emerging world order has made many assume that it backs all opponents of the People’s Republic, from neighbouring states with whom Beijing has territorial disputes to terrorist groups, yet a recent move just shattered this perception. The State Department abruptly raised the “Balochistan Liberation Army’s” (BLA) 2019 “Specially Designated Global Terrorist” designation to a “Foreign Terrorist Organization” amidst the US-Pakistani rapprochement.
The BLA is veritably a terrorist group whose last well-known attack was its deadly hijacking of the Jaffar Express earlier this spring, which followed an upsurge of other terrorist attacks over the past three years, including against projects connected to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). CPEC is the flagship project of China’s Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) and was envisaged as giving it direct access to the Indian Ocean for preemptively mitigating the effects of any future US blockade of the Malacca Strait.
This series of megaprojects has stalled in recent years for a variety of reasons ranging from corruption to Pakistan’s political dysfunction since April 2022’s post-modern coup and especially the BLA’s spree of terrorist attacks afterwards which exploited the state’s new focus on crushing the opposition. Given the outsized role that the BLA has played in subverting CPEC, which the US hitherto turned a blind eye to for reasons of strategic convenience despite its existing terrorist designation, it should be a de facto US ally.
Instead, its terrorist designation was just raised, thus naturally prompting the question of why. The rapidly evolving regional and global contexts help answer that. Not only has the US entered into a rapprochement with Pakistan, but it’s also seeking one with China too as proven by Trump’s eagerness to reach a trade deal and his muted criticism of it as of late. This could respectively reshape the region and the world alike if these dual rapprochements successfully derail India’s rise as a Great Power.
By raising the BLA’s terrorist designation, the US is signalling that it’ll stop opposing CPEC as part of what might be a grand compromise with China, with this concession being aimed at reviving BRI’s flagship so as to further strengthen the Sino-Pak alliance against India. Getting CPEC back on track could also offset the incipient Sino-Indo rapprochement since it was CPEC’s announcement a decade ago that sparked the latest phase of their rivalry due to it transiting through Indian-claimed but Pakistani-controlled territory.
The grand strategic goal that the US is pursuing is the “G2”/“Chimerica” scenario of dividing the world with China after it failed to restore unipolarity, which requires containing, subordinating, and possibly even “Balkanizing” India since its rise as a Great Power would ruin these plans. Indian analyst Surya Kanegaonkar suspects that the BLA’s new designation could precede a US-Pakistani attempt to place India on the Financial Action Task Force on the pretext that it backs this group. He might be proven right.
All told, the importance of the BLA’s new terrorist designation is that it corroborates claims that the US is using its new rapprochement with Pakistan to advance a more globally significant one with China, both of which are driven in large part by their shared interest in derailing India’s rise as a Great Power. Whether or not the US-Pakistani rapprochement holds, a US-Chinese one is secured, and/or India is contained, the fact is that the US is attempting another powerplay, which follows its latest against Russia.

These demands will obviously be particularly difficult for Jewish communities, and especially for Israeli American, Israeli British, and other dual-citizen families, so they will need the support of anti-Zionist Jews. But if we take “never again” after the Holocaust seriously, it applies to Israel too. The recognition of genocide by B’Tselem, Physicians for Human Rights–Israel, and other Israeli Jews is obviously crucial in legitimating the demand for an anti-genocide break with the state within the global Jewish community.
Clearly, these kinds of demands are well in advance of where even the most progressive Western governments are at the present time. But they are the kinds of pressures that match the growing consciousness of the genocide across the world. It is actions, not words, that Israel and even Donald Trump will take notice of. Ending the Gaza genocide must become the new raison d’état in every country that claims to represent human values."

There was something interesting going on on one of my systems:
If a certain function in #Python was called as a separate process with the #multiprocessing library, then the sort_values function of #Pandas would just hang (and therefore the process would never produce the output I was waiting for). Called from the main process was OK.
The solution was to change the sorting algorithm by the `kind="stable"` parameter. Weird.

I went all out on a #selfhosting setup (again). I decided to host a few (more) things that I had wanted for some time. This instance is one of them.
Over the years, I've used a #Synology #NAS (awful, very limited software). Then I built a #diyNAS with a Celeron CPU and Mini-ITX board, but it was a bit too big for my nomadic lifestyle, so I sold it for parts before my second move.
I was stuck with an #Asustor NAS for some time, which was good for storage. Especially since it was easy to run on a custom OS — #OpenMediaVault, in my case. But it wasn't powerful enough to run everything I wanted. And that's not including things like #GoToSocial. Admittedly, I'm also running surveillance software.
I've eventually settled on an AMD #Ryzen #miniPC with NVMe and SATA storage. The SATA disk is limited to a height of 7 mm, which also limits it to 2 TB. The NVMe is also limited to 2TB, because of the price =)
Additionally, I have a USB 3.0 external hard drive for 'cold storage'. It's also 2TB. So, with 6TB of #storage, I have more than enough for my self-hosting needs. This includes my current media library, although it may become a bottleneck in the near future as I'm leaving #Spotify.
The purpose of this instance is to post about #selfhosted software and, on occasion, a little about #softwaredevelopment (though I always struggle to find something to write about on this subject, probably because it is my job) without being constrained to 500 characters on #Mastodon or running a full-featured Mastodon instance.

Ich weiß, dass es keine gleichwertigen alternativen gibt.¹ Ich weiß aber auch, wie hirnlos es ist, einem unternehmen geld dafür abzudrücken, dass es einem nach gutsherrenart gängelt und kristlich-fundamentalistisch motivierte technikverhinderungen zumutet. Das einzige, wo es solchen digitalfeudalisten mit ihrer entrechtenden mietsoftwäjhr im moment noch wehtut, ist der geldbeutel. Alles andere ist denen egal. Kultur: egal! Kunst: egal! Freiheit: egal! Ach, ihr seid gar nicht „kreativ“, sondern macht für eine faustvoll geld reklame und vorsätzlich wahnhafte fotobearbeitung, die menschen beim vergleich mit euren wahnbildern so meschugge machen kann, dass einige davon einen kranken selbsthass mit oft tödlichen folgen entwickeln? Deshalb ist eure „kreativität“ auch so sehr von bestimmter softwäjhr abhängig, weil man das damit so gut und schnell kann? Dann nennt euch nicht „kreativ“, ihr arschlöcher, macht eure nach lüge und scheiße stinkende scheißfresse wieder zu und geht sterben! Euch vermisse ich jedenfalls nicht!

¹Allerdings kann man selbst mit dem Freien und kostenlosen gimp auch eine menge anstellen, und für viele menschen wird das völlig ausreichen. Leider kann gimp vieles nicht, was fotoschopp kann und was sogar ein eingefleischter, regelmäßiger gimpnutzer wie ich sehr nützlich fände: umgang mit raw-formaten, verlustfreie filter, gute auswahlwerkzeuge. Die textläjher von gimp sind auch nicht so pralle, um es mal mild auszudrücken. Es hat schon einen grund, dass leute lieber bessere werkzeuge benutzen, genau so, wie es einen grund hat, dass gimp-nutzer irgendwann erstaunlich viele filter und sogar filterpakete installiert haben. Man möchte weniger mühe haben. Dass man dafür die mühe hinnimmt, sich um irgendwelche religjös motivierten technikverhinderungen der fundamentalistischen kristianisten aus den USA herumzuwurschteln und ohne unmittelbaren zwang dem digitalen lehnsherrn auch noch pinkepinke gibt, ist allerdings dumm und wird genau diesen zustand langfristig zementieren und im laufe der zeit immer unerträglicher machen. Was wird wohl als näxstes nicht mehr gehen, weil es mit willkürlicher zensur unmöglich gemacht wird? Bestimmte wörter im textläjher? Mit ausweitung dieser zensur auf „indesign“? Lacht nicht, ihr von adobe verdummten und abhängig gemachten anwender! Eine zensur von nacktheit in eurer bildbearbeitungssoftwäjhr hättet ihr vor ein paar jahren auch absurd gefunden. Es wird nicht besser, wenn man sich diese ganzen verschlimmscheißungen immer wieder gefallen lässt.

Für Echtzeit-Benachrichtigungen habe ich mir ntfy installiert - und das funktioniert leider nicht. Tusky hat ntfy offenbar erkannt, denn Tusky wird in ntfy auch als Benachrichtigungsquelle angezeigt. Ntfy habe ich auch vom Energiesparmodus ausgenommen. Trotzdem werden keine Push-Benachrichtigungen angezeigt...

NATO’s New Ally? Argentina And UK Forge Quiet Military Ties To Counter China In The South Atlantic

Underreported UK-Argentina military secret dialogue, tied to Milei’s NATO aspirations, seeks to counter China’s growing South Atlantic presence. This partnership could empower US neo-Monroeism, alter Latin America’s strategic balance, and even impact BRICS.
The South Atlantic, a region often overlooked in global geopolitics, is quietly becoming a theatre of strategic manoeuvring, with Britain and Argentina engaging in underreported military dialogue to counter Chinese influence. This development, driven by Argentine President Javier Milei’s pro-Western pivot, could reshape Latin America’s geopolitical landscape, bolster the US-led West’s position in the Southern Cone, and even ripple into the BRICS alliance.
According to an Economist piece, Britain and Argentina have resumed defense talks after years of estrangement, spurred by Milei’s unorthodox stance on the Falklands and concerns about China’s growing footprint in the South Atlantic.
Argentina currently seeks to modernize its dilapidated armed forces with NATO-compatible equipment, while Britain is considering loosening its stringent arms export restrictions, a legacy of the 1982 Falklands War between the two countries. The dialogue, which began warming in February 2024 with British defence attachés visiting Buenos Aires, aims to foster practical cooperation — think training, maritime safety, and Antarctic logistics — while sidestepping the thorny issue of sovereignty of the disputed territories.
The reasoning is: Argentina gains access to Western military technology, and Britain secures a de facto Argentine acknowledgment of its South Atlantic role, thereby enhancing regional security coordination.
This is no easy task, given the historical wounds. One may recall that during the Falklands War, Britain’s preparations were so severe that Margaret Thatcher reportedly considered nuclear options against Argentina. While claims of the UK deploying secret laser weapons in 1982 still lack corroboration, the Royal Air Force (RAF) did draw up plans to bomb Argentine airfields.
No wonder, then, that the Malvinas/Falklands remain a sensitive topic in Argentina, where Milei’s blunt admission, last year, that the islands are “in the hands of the UK” sparked domestic backlash. While domestically problematic, Milei’s approach, bilateral-wise, has been all about de-escalating day-to-day tensions through humanitarian gestures like cemetery visits and resumed flights. It has in fact opened space for such dialogue.
Here, as usual, the broader context is critical. The US, under Trump’s aggressive neo-Monroe Doctrine, is grappling with waning influence in Latin America. Tensions with Mexico, Brazil, and even Colombia could have left Washington searching for a reliable partner in the region — in the strict and peculiar enough way Washington understands what a partner should be.
Argentina, under Javier Milei’s fiercely pro-Western government, is positioning itself as precisely that ally. One should keep in mind this is a leader who has promised to “get rid” of the peso currency by replacing it with the US dollar.
Under Milei, the South American country in fact withdrew from its pending BRICS application. Meanwhile, the US Coast Guard and the Argentine Navy have started joint operations to curb Chinese fishing in the southwest Atlantic.
Perhaps even more significantly, in April 2024, Buenos Aires formally requested NATO Global Partner status, a move which signs an alignment with the US/UK-led security ecosystem. As a Global Partner Argentina could gain access to advanced technology, training, and exercises: in a way a symbolic leap toward NATO integration.
This pivot in fact dovetails with the British-Argentinian talks, as both London and Buenos Aires have voiced concerns about Beijing’s infrastructure projects and about alleged illegal fishing in the South Atlantic, a region critical for Antarctic access and maritime routes like the Strait of Magellan.
As part of its efforts towards a NATO path (enhancing interoperability with the Alliance standards), Argentina also signed an agreement to acquire 24 surplus F-16 fighter jets from Denmark, valued at around $300 million, a deal supported by American financing — the most significant equipment purchase since the country’s return to democracy
Suffice to say, this alignment could reshape Latin America’s strategic balance. Argentina’s NATO aspirations and its negotiations for Danish Iver Huitfeldt frigates reveal Buenos AIres’ intent to integrate with Western defense networks. For the US, Argentina could also serve as a kind of linchpin to counterbalance Brazil and its nuclear submarine ambitions, which, as I noted elsewhere, have historically leaned on Russian cooperation.
This is no light matter. Even someone as staunchly pro-Western as former US President Jair Bolsonaro sought Moscow’s help pertaining to Brazil’s nuclear submarine project in 2022. Brazil’s military has traditionally sought to challenge Anglo-American dominance in the South Atlantic, a project rooted in the 1982 Falklands War’s lessons and aimed at asserting control over the “Blue Amazon”.
Ironically, in 2017, Argentina, under former President Mauricio Macri’, lodged a formal protest with Brazil regarding the landing of British military aircraft at Brazilian airports en route to the Falkland Islands. Five years before, in 2012, Buenos Aires accused the UK of deploying a nuclear submarine to the region, in violation of the Treaty of Tlatelolco. Such episodes indicate a broader struggle over the South Atlantic’s resources and strategic choke points.
Milei’s recent moves, therefore, risk inflaming tensions with Brazil, which has historically backed Argentina’s Malvinas claims but now sees its neighbour cosying up to its former adversary.
Be as it may, British-Argentinian dialogue is clearly more about strengthening the political West’s presence in the Southern Hemisphere, plus giving Washington’s neo-Monroe strategy a foothold in the South Cone than about healing past wounds.
