Content warning:Hypothetical on Fediverse security
I have been elected president of my could try, running as an anticapitalist populist and using non-corporate social media.
As a result I have brought many, many users and new instances to the fediverse. It is mainstream now, it has gone viral, if you will, and it has helped me go viral. But there is an issue.
My server is another country, and I realize that my security may in danger. My meager contributions, if any, to cover the server operations aren't enough to prevent major social media corporations from coming after my server to try to compromise it. It has created an unfair burden to the server operator.
Obviously, there is a point when I should have switched to my own server. Lift the burden, and control my own security. With millions of followers and followeds, it will not be hard for my server to become federated with many other servers. But when is/was that point? When I move to my own instance, are there still vulnerabilities on the other instance I was originally on?
Likewise, if I move to the fediverse with a huge following and abundant fame, should I just start with own instance? Can't move followers and followeds in that case, but there will be a network effect.
I think about this because I do miss being able to speak directly to power on the corporate social media site. Is this a real hindrance to having world leaders #OnHere?

One (very small) upside is that we can stop feeling bad about citing China as a positive example of anything.
It used to be I'd feel guilty for doing so, just because its society,—social credit system and slave camps, the whole thing—was such a nightmare of authoritarianism.

This is how I use ChatGPT when doing my daily reading. It is fantastic at getting further links into the literature. It’s cryptic output also means that I really get to exercise my brain and pretty much requires me to go through the primary sources.
I do from time to time prompt it to be a bit more “newbie”-friendly when I’m tired or just want some understandable answer, but the terseness usually hides some real “in depth reasoning” tying together disparate concepts into something valuable to ponder, vs the surface level summarization slop.

I'm not going to allow something like a USB device error stop me from booting up the illumos ISO with success.
I will work on a practical solution to start and install the operating system since I've already freed up 20 GB of HDD space on the two and a half inch drive allocated for it.
I really want to see illumos in action. I will download another distribution and look if that one boots properly from my current USB device, where the ISO images are booted using Ventoy

Cybercriminals are exploiting an AI-powered website creation platform called Lovable to generate fraudulent websites for credential phishing and malware delivery. The threat actors create or clone sites impersonating well-known brands, use CAPTCHA for filtering, and post stolen credentials to Telegram. Campaigns observed include Tycoon phishing, payment and personal data theft, cryptocurrency wallet draining, and malware distribution. The ease of use of such AI tools significantly lowers the barrier to entry for cybercriminals, allowing them to quickly create convincing phishing pages. While Lovable has implemented new security measures, organizations are advised to consider allow-listing policies for frequently abused tools.
