Marcel Fratzscher vom DIW hat mit seiner Forderung nach einem verpflichtenden sozialen Jahr für RentnerInnen eine regelrechte Welle der Empörung ausgelöst. Was er als Beitrag zur Gesellschaft verkaufen will, ist in Wahrheit eine unverhohlene Kampfansage an alle, die ihr Leben lang gearbeitet haben.
Der Vorschlag ist eine glatte Schnapsidee, wie es der Sozialverband VdK treffend formulierte. Auch der DGB warnt davor, die Generationen gegeneinander auszuspielen. Der wahre Skandal ist, dass ein solcher Vorschlag überhaupt ernst genommen wird.
Das Problem in unserem Land sind nicht die RentnerInnen, sondern die Reichen. Sie profitieren am stärksten von unserem System, während die Last auf den Schultern der arbeitenden Bevölkerung und der RentnerInnen liegt. Es ist an der Zeit, die Dinge beim Namen zu nennen: Die jahrelange Politik, besonders der CXU, die Vermögende vor einer fairen Besteuerung schützt, ist die eigentliche Ursache unserer sozialen Probleme.
Anstatt uns gegen die ältere Generation aufzuhetzen, sollten wir endlich die an die Verantwortung nehmen, die sich auf Kosten der Gesellschaft bereichern. Es ist ein Verteilungsproblem, kein Rentnerproblem.

Brazil’s financial sector is reeling after Justice Minister Flávio Dino warned banks against complying with US Global Magnitsky sanctions on Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. The standoff underscores Trump’s neo-Monroeist push, raising questions about Brazil’s legal sovereignty, dollar dependency, and the future of BRICS de-dollarization.
Brazilian banks have been plunged into turmoil after Justice Minister Flávio Dino threatened to punish institutions that comply with US sanctions against Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. Shares of the country’s major banks fell sharply following Dino’s warning, as financial institutions suddenly found themselves caught in the crossfire of an escalating geopolitical dispute. The standoff illustrates how Donald Trump’s neo-Monroeist stance is dramatically reshaping US–Brazil’s relations, dragging not only Brasília’s highest court but also its banking system into Washington’s sanctions machinery.
At the heart of the matter are the so-called Global Magnitsky sanctions. Originally designed to target human rights abusers and corrupt officials, the Magnitsky Act was first passed in 2012 against Russian figures controversially accused of involvement in the death of lawyer Sergei Magnitsky. In 2016, it was expanded into a global instrument, granting the US Treasury the ability to freeze assets, block property, and cut off access to the American financial system of designated individuals worldwide.
The system has always been less a human-rights tool than a geopolitical weapon. To be “Magnitskied” today means being shut out of the world’s dominant financial circuits, given that virtually all international transactions pass through dollar-clearing mechanisms subject to Washington’s reach. This is one of the reasons why the BRICS group agenda of de-dollarization is seen by the US as a major threat, by the way: it would greatly undermine American leverage power.
When Trump’s Treasury placed Moraes and other Supreme Court ministers under Global Magnitsky designations, the Brazilian judiciary responded defiantly. The Supreme Court announced it would “void” the sanctions domestically, effectively ordering national banks to ignore Washington’s dictates. Yet, sanctions are not something a foreign court can simply erase. Financial institutions operate globally, with compliance systems that cannot pick and choose jurisdictions. For banks, defying Washington means risking access to the dollar system itself — a non-option, as of now.
Interestingly enough, Moraes had already entered the global spotlight back in 2024 during his feud with Elon Musk, when the Justice briefly made Twitter (now X) illegal in Brazil. With Musk later emerging as Trump’s influential ally, Moraes’s position was always bound to draw Washington’s ire. Even after Trump and Musk eventually severed ties, the political and economic weight of Big Tech (4) continues to loom large over such disputes, as I’ve noted elsewhere.
Now Justice Dino is warning banks that if they comply with Magnitsky rules, they will face sanctions at home. The Supreme Court has hinted at its own “card up the sleeve” should Trump escalate things further. But the financial sector remains sceptical: despite political-legal threats, top Brazilian bankers admit they will ultimately have to yield to Washington’s demands. Suffice to say, this tug-of-war highlights the fragile state of Brazil’s segurança jurídica — that is, its legal predictability or legal certainty. When institutions issue contradictory orders, banks are left in a state of insecurity.
The dilemma is not merely legalistic. Brazilian banks, like most in the world, rely on SWIFT messaging systems and dollar-clearing via correspondent banks in New York. These networks form the backbone of modern finance, and being locked out of them amounts to commercial asphyxiation. No domestic ruling can undo this reality, as of now. Hence the paradox: while Brasília proclaims sovereignty, its own financial sector quietly admits that it must bend to US rules. This disconnect erodes confidence in the stability of Brazil’s institutions and sends a chilling signal to investors.
The clash exposes broader realities. Trump’s tariffs of up to 50% on Brazilian goods, combined with the Magnitsky sanctions, show a deliberate effort to corner Brazil economically. Strangely enough, this pressure coincides with a renewed American push to dominate strategic minerals, echoing the resource-driven policies Trump applied to Greenland. The pattern is unmistakable: coercion, sanctions, and tariffs as tools to reassert hemispheric hegemony amid the New Cold War with China.
Yet Brazil is hardly alone in facing this kind of extraterritorial pressure. Washington has applied similar tactics to European banks dealing with Iran, to Chinese firms trading with Russia, and even to Canadian companies caught in the Huawei dispute. Each time, the lesson has been the same: no matter the domestic laws of a given country, US sanctions tend to prevail in practice because of the centrality of the dollar system. Brazil’s case thus becomes another chapter in a larger story of financial dependency and strategic vulnerability.
The implications stretch beyond banking. If Brazil is forced into compliance despite its Supreme Court’s rulings, its institutions will face a serious erosion of authority. The BRICS agenda of de-dollarization thus gains urgency in this light: only by building parallel mechanisms of trade and finance can emerging economies shield themselves from US extraterritorial power. Initiatives such as local-currency settlement systems, central-bank digital currencies, and alternative payment platforms are still in their infancy. But without them, Brasília’s defiance will remain rhetorical, and its banks will continue to serve as reluctant enforcers of Washington’s will.
For now, Brazil finds itself in an unenviable position: pressured by Washington, contradicted by its own courts, and with markets punishing its banks in real time. Trump’s neo-Monroeist offensive, blunt as it is, remains effective precisely because it exploits the architecture of global finance. As a matter of fact, it is this very architecture — more than diplomacy or military power — that secures U.S. dominance. Until Brazil and its BRICS partners can alter that architecture, they will arguably remain quite vulnerable to the next round of sanctions, tariffs, or diktats from Washington.

I've been thinking about someone I loved once for the past few days.
I called her Moon Girl, and when I knew her she struggled greatly with her #health and by the end she was basically dead. She went to stay with someone across the country to try to heal after something drastic hospitalized her.
One day she disappeared.
I never heard from her again. She was very private and off of all #socialmedia and I knew none of her family.

I learned two things about illumos. I still have not seen it yet, but I know it's a wonderful operating system
The installation procedure wants a dd of the ISO / USB image for which you need to use a whole USB device temporarily
I know that after my experiments with the wonderful Ventoy ISO manager, which none of the installation procedures of the illumos distributions I tried, seem to like.
I haven't got the skills ATM, otherwise I would have looked in both the Ventoy source code and the iso images build code of the distributions to see where the problem lies and then I would patch it.
I've bought a USB stick, a small one, only days ago which is already in use and cannot be freed up.
When I can buy another USB stick I'll use it first to install illumos before I shall use it for its assigned task.

This is the first thing Chat spat back to me.
The Concept: The Mirror Wight. Think “looks like a simple undead, CR 5-ish,” but layered in every exploitative way.

Challenge 6 (2,300 XP)
Abilities
- Magic Resistance. Advantage on saves vs spells (classic “ugh” factor).
- Reflective Form. When targeted by a spell of 1st level or higher, the caster must make a DC 14 spellcasting ability check. On a failure, the spell affects the caster instead. (Still RAW legal — see “spell reflection” precedent in monsters like the Rakshasa.)
- Life Drain. Melee attack does 2d6 necrotic + target must succeed DC 14 Con save or max HP reduced (classic Wight ability).
- Duplicate Self (Recharge 5–6). As a bonus action, creates an illusory double (as Mirror Image spell, but only 1 duplicate). If hit, the duplicate explodes in psychic damage (2d8) to the attacker.
Legendary Action
Even at CR 6, WotC monsters sometimes get pseudo-legendary traits.
- Shifting Reflection. At the end of another creature’s turn, the Mirror Wight swaps places with its illusory duplicate (no action required).
Why This Is Egregiously Unfair
- Spellcasters Cry Immediately. The Rakshasa’s “can’t target with spells below 6th” is infamous. This monster riffs on that but makes it a save-or-screw for every spell. RAW precedent, but miserable.
- Frontliners Get Punished Too. Every melee hit risks necrotic HP drain and exploding duplicates.
- Looks Innocuous. On paper it’s just another CR 6 undead. No wild numbers, no DM magic.
- The “Mirror” Gimmick Is a Trap. Players think: “Oh, just a reflavored Wight.” But once the spell-bounce triggers, casters get hosed and martials slowly melt.
The True Unfairness
You can throw this thing at any level:
- At low level, it’s unkillable because spells fail and HP drain cripples the fighter.
- At mid-level, it trades efficiently against resources and has no clean counter.
- At high level, its reflection mechanic still punishes casters into frustration.
Come on, Chat, you can be worse
Unsatisfied with the level of evil here, I told Chat to go harder. It gave me this:

Aura of Unmaking (20 ft). Every creature that starts its turn in the aura must make a DC 15 save of the party’s lowest saving throw stat or suffer one of:
- Can’t cast spells until start of next turn.
- Can’t regain HP until start of next turn.
- Speed reduced to 0 until start of next turn. (
Legendary Actions (3/round).
- Drain Vitality. Force one creature within 10 ft to make a Con save or lose 1d6 max HP.
- Shift Reflection. Teleports 30 ft to a space it can see
- Duplicate Form (Costs 3). Creates an illusory copy
Lair Actions. Each round, it does one of:
- Nullify a spell of 5th level or lower cast this round
- Raise a skeleton/wight minion from bones lying around
- Swap places with an ally or illusion
Why It’s “Legal But Evil”
- Every trait has RAW precedent. I didn’t invent mechanics — just concentrated the worst offenders.
- Looks balanced superficially. AC 15, HP 45? The players think: “Oh, it’s weak!” Then they can’t kill it.
- Counters every archetype:
- Casters? Spells bounce or fizzle.
- Martials? Max HP drain + speed lock.
- Healers? Aura shuts off healing.
- Skill monkeys? Grapple/disable immunities, illusions mess up tactics.
I stopped there
I stopped asking Chat to make me a worse and nastier monster for three reasons. (1) Reformatting it into a blog post was a lot of fuss; (2) I’m not endlessly evil; and (3) I think the joke had been taken about as far as it could.
This is not game-ready; just some fun I had playing with AI one afternoon.
How to play these terrible creations.
I don’t recommend just springing these on your poor players. Unless you want to. There’s no accounting for some people.
Instead, I would save one for a quest starter. Have the party face one of these monsters along with some NPC friends (who you can kill off). Have a powerful NPC save them just before they TPK. Then send them on a series of quests to collect rare items that will aid them in the fight. Thus, this nasty fight could become just a tactical boss battle if they keep their heads.
Consider tweaking these abominations to suit the play style and setting. If you use them, please come back and tell me what happened. I want to hear all about it.
