Deux ans d’auto-hébergement avec Mes Numériques, le bilan.
Il y a un peu plus de deux ans, mesnumeriques.fr voyait le jour avec une ambition simple : proposer des services auto-hébergés accessibles et respectueux des utilisateurs.
Aujourd’hui, cet environnement fonctionne en continu, avec plusieurs services interconnectés et une communauté active.
Ce bilan est l’occasion de partager à la fois les aspects techniques, mais aussi les enseignements humains tirés de cette expérience.
🏡 Une infrastructure adaptée à l’auto-hébergement
Le choix du fournisseur d’accès a été déterminant, le matériel réseau aussi.
L’infrastructure repose sur une connexion Free, qui présente plusieurs avantages essentiels :
- une adresse IP fixe
- l’ouverture du port 25
- un reverse DNS personnalisable
Ces éléments sont indispensables pour héberger certains services, notamment la messagerie.
La bande passante disponible (jusqu’à 8 Gbps) offre un confort important, notamment pour les services gourmands comme la vidéo.
En revanche, certaines limites existent, notamment au niveau du peering, pouvant introduire une latence légèrement supérieure à d’autres opérateurs.
💌 L’importance de la messagerie e-mail souveraine
L’hébergement d’un serveur mail fonctionnel repose sur des contraintes techniques strictes.
Sans IP fixe, sans port 25 ouvert et sans reverse DNS, la délivrabilité des e-mails devient rapidement problématique.
Ce constat confirme qu’un auto-hébergement “complet” nécessite un environnement réseau adapté. Je ne m'attarderai pas sur la nécessité de posséder un routeur performant pour se libérer des limitations de la box d'un FAI (firewal inexistant ou trop basique)
👨👩👦👦 Une expérience avant tout humaine
Au-delà des aspects techniques, ces deux années ont surtout permis de mieux comprendre le rôle d’administrateur.
Maintenir des services implique une responsabilité : des utilisateurs dépendent directement de leur disponibilité.
Un autre point marquant est le manque de retours utilisateurs, même en cas de problème.
Mettre en place une communication efficace est donc essentiel.
Enfin, le choix d’une infrastructure ouverte (comme un résolveur DNS public ou un service mail) nécessite une vigilance constante en matière de sécurité.
☠️ Apprendre des incidents
Un événement marquant a été la corruption d’une base de données Friendica en octobre 2025.
Cet incident a mis en évidence plusieurs points clés :
La nécessité de tester régulièrement les sauvegardes,
l’importance de surveiller les comportements anormaux
et la capacité à reconstruire après un échec
Ces expériences contribuent directement à améliorer la robustesse globale de l’infrastructure.
📺 PeerTube : un service robuste
PeerTube constitue le pilier de mon écosystème.
Avec plus d’un téraoctet de données et plusieurs milliers de vidéos, il s’agit du service le plus important en termes de ressources.
Sa stabilité est remarquable.
Cependant, les usages observés sont variés, et parfois éloignés de l’esprit de partage initial.
Cela soulève des questions sur les pratiques et les attentes des utilisateurs.
🏞️ Un écosystème contrasté
Les différents services présentent des niveaux de maturité variés :
Mastodon : une expérience fluide et accessible
Friendica : une alternative simple mais vieillissante
Pixelfed : encore instable mais fonctionnelle
Lemmy : peu adopté
Nextcloud : puissant mais complexe à maintenir
Matrix : performant et respectueux de la vie privée
Immich : un potentiel encore sous-exploité
Immich s’impose comme une alternative crédible aux solutions centralisées comme Google Photos.
Malgré ses qualités techniques, son adoption reste limitée, probablement en raison d’un manque de confiance ou de visibilité.
⚙️ Les services de fond
Certains services, moins visibles, jouent un rôle essentiel :
Filebrowser, pour le partage de fichiers
DNS et ntfy, pour fuir les pubs et les pistages
Mailcow, qui a suscité un fort intérêt lors de son lancement
💡 Conclusion
Ces deux années confirment que l’auto-hébergement est une démarche exigeante, mais enrichissante.
Au-delà de la technique, il s’agit avant tout d’un engagement : fournir des services fiables, respectueux, et durables.
L’objectif pour la suite est clair :
- consolider l’existant
- privilégier la stabilité

In the short term, avoiding social media can bring about changes in your life and health.
In recent years, the increased use of digital devices and social media has had a significant impact on the mental and emotional well-being of humans. At the same time, experts have consistently tried to investigate the extent to which reducing or avoiding the use of these devices affects a person’s focus, emotions, and overall life. This report summarizes various research findings on this topic for discerning readers.
First: The Effects of Avoiding Social Media for Two Weeks
According to a report by The Telegraph, a recent study published in the PNAS Nexus journal, involving over 467 participants with an average age of 32, asked participants to limit their mobile internet usage for 14 days, while only maintaining telephone calls and messages.
To block internet and social media-related apps, news, and browsers on participants’ mobile phones, the "Freedom" app was used.
The method of the study was that participants were divided into two groups, each of which experienced internet restrictions for two weeks. Then, they switched places, so that changes could be observed before, during, and after the experiment.
The results showed that daily screen time decreased from five to three hours, and there was an improvement in the participants' mental health, such that signs of anger decreased, anxiety levels dropped, life satisfaction increased, and positive emotions multiplied.
Mental activity, including focus and attention, also improved significantly. Researchers equated this progress with the restoration of cognitive weakness that may have developed due to excessive use of digital devices over 10 years.
The results also indicated that this recovery was not limited to the duration of the experiment but continued afterward, and most participants reduced their screen time permanently.
Lifestyle Changes
The data also revealed that participants gradually began to change their daily habits, and the time they previously spent on their phones was now dedicated to more beneficial and real-life activities. They increased face-to-face interactions with people in the community, engaged in physical activities, set aside time for reading, and spent more time in nature, all of which had a positive impact on their mental peace and emotional balance.
According to researchers, even participants who did not completely disconnect from social networks during the entire period gained some health benefits, suggesting that even partial avoidance of these platforms has a positive impact on emotional well-being.
Dr. Kostadin Kushlaf (Professor of Psychiatry at George Washington University) stated that limiting exposure to the digital world revitalizes natural focus and reduces mental confusion caused by the constant use of mobile phones.
Second: The Effects of Reducing Social Media Use for One Week
According to a report by Medical Express, another study, published in "JAMA Network Open," was conducted on young adults aged 18 to 24 who were highly active on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, and X.
The study aimed to identify the effects of different types of mobile use on human anxiety, depression, and sleep quality and to determine which mobile uses create potential psychological effects.
The study collected data from 295 participants over a two-week period to monitor their usual use of these platforms. Then, they reduced social media use for one week, and participants recorded their mental health assessments daily, including momentary environmental assessments (EMA).
The results showed an improvement in the participants' mental health, with a noticeable decrease in anxiety, depression, and insomnia after just one week, indicating a rapid positive change in mental state.
Anxiety decreased by an average of 16.1%, depression by 24.8%, and signs of insomnia by 14.5%. Social media usage time decreased from 1.9 hours to 0.5 hours, and a small number of participants completely stopped using it.
The study suggested that the level of recovery was higher in people who used social networks heavily, especially those who experienced negative social comparisons or addictive usage. The results also show that reducing screen time alone is not enough; the type of usage and psychological interaction are also important.
While the results were promising, the study was not without limitations, such as the fact that participants volunteered, there was no random control group, and there was no long-term follow-up.
The study developers emphasized that reducing social media use is beneficial for young people, but further research is needed to clarify the duration and long-term effects of these findings.
