YouTube ha empezado a ofrecer a los usuarios de su versión gratuita una de las funciones más populares de YouTube Premium: la descarga de videos. Sin embargo, esta novedad viene con limitaciones significativas en la calidad de video y en el número de descargas, en un intento de la compañía por atraer a más suscriptores de pago (Fuente Reddit).
YouTube ha introducido de forma discreta una de sus funciones más valoradas, las descargas de videos, a los usuarios de su plan gratuito. Aunque hasta ahora esta característica era exclusiva de los suscriptores de YouTube Premium, la compañía ha comenzado a implementarla para todos, aunque con una serie de restricciones que la hacen una versión «ligera».
La principal limitación se encuentra en la calidad de los videos: los usuarios gratuitos solo pueden descargar contenido en 360p y 144p, lo cual contrasta con las opciones de 1080p y 720p disponibles para los suscriptores de pago.
Además de la baja calidad, los usuarios de la versión gratuita también tienen un límite en la cantidad de videos que pueden descargar, aunque la cifra exacta aún no ha sido especificada. Por el contrario, los suscriptores de YouTube Premium disfrutan de descargas ilimitadas.
Este movimiento de Google es visto como una estrategia para dar un «aperitivo» de los beneficios de la suscripción de pago, mostrando el valor de la función de descarga sin ofrecerla en su totalidad. Para aquellos que valoran ver videos sin conexión y no quieren lidiar con las limitaciones de la versión gratuita, YouTube sigue promocionando su plan Premium como la opción que ofrece una experiencia completa, sin anuncios y con la posibilidad de elegir la calidad de video que deseen. I wonder if more people would understand #decentralization if it were explained in the more relevant terms of legal jurisdiction rather than in technical terms.
In sum: because the #fediverse is not a single company, not every service provider (instance owner) is subject to the same laws. An instance owner with his person, business, and hardware in, say, Nicaragua doesn't need to worry about legal consequences for violating a #Mississippi law requiring age verification. And because the law only applies to websites, users are in the clear.
Of course, that isn't as family-friendly as the tech explanation and makes the normies feel like they're buying drugs on the Silk Road.

"P.R" #China got it's industrialization kickstarted by a democidal dictator and only opened up when it was already a production powerhouse.
- The #USA by contrast relies heavily on relatively unhindered exports and imports, espechally digital and payment services.
Going full #NorthKorea or even #China would destroy this source of income for the #Trump-Regime and even Trump himself ain't gonna decapitate himself that way...
- Given the #Cyberfacist hegemony of the USA it needs the veneer of being trustworthy and somewhat working, and Trump is destroying that in record time.

@angry Souveränität bedeutet für mich weniger wo eine Dienstleistung betrieben wird sondern dass man bewusst frei entscheiden kann und nicht in einen Lock-in gerät. Wichtig ist die Möglichkeit jederzeit die Plattform wechseln zu können. #OpenSource und europäische Lösungen sind dafür ein sehr guter Weg aber nicht der einzige.
Deine Analyse wirkte auf mich so als wenn es nur darum geht in Europa zu betreiben.
