@cyberwitch People on the Left tend to overfocus on the possibility that an authoritarian regime could completely suppress voting or completely fake election results. Well, they COULD, but it’s significant that #Orbán DIDN'T. Complete electoral fakery is not a free operation. For one thing, it can convince people that electoral politics is truly useless, and thus set the stage for a violent #revolution. Orbán didn't want to end up with his head on a pike.
OTOH you're quite right: one problem with electoral opposition to #dictatorship is that the winners often disappoint. In the #USA I keep reminding people that it’s not just the Republicans who are our enemies; so are most of the Democrats. The public needs to understand that, and insist (for example, in the primaries) on radicalism as the only viable alternative to oppression.

It comes after unprecedented talks between the US and Iran ended in failure, as Vice President JD Vance said Iran refused to rule out its pursuit of a nuclear weapon.
President Trump says his blockade of the Strait of Hormuz will stop any ship, including those that have paid a toll to Iran from passing in or out, adding that any Iranian that fires on American or other peaceful vessels will be “blown to hell”.
Iran said any military vessels approaching the Strait will be considered violating the ceasefire and will be “dealt with.”
Are we entering a new and dangerous chapter of this six week old war? The world and the markets will soon find out whether Trump’s leverage has worked or backfired.

Now #Hungary has given us an answer to the claim that #electoral means are useless for ending a #dictatorship. Even a badly gerrymandered, deeply flawed electoral system can accomplish real change if public opinion is strongly enough against the #dictator.
Keep that in mind here in the #USA as we approach the midterms. Do NOT discourage anyone from voting, even if you believe (as I do!) that our Constitution is fundamentally undemocratic. An electoral system does NOT need to be completely fair and honest in order to be a useful lever to overturn a dictatorship.

When the abortion drugs arrived, there was thunder that made her jump out of her seat. (Perhaps God was trying to warn her.) But she did it any way and then she insisted on burning the dead baby. She said she was looking forward to wearing jeans again.
