The BBC podcast Tech Life on 26 Aug 2025 reports on continuing issues with Meta over Facebook and Instagram accounts being banned for no good reason, leaving some users without access to sometimes years of data including messages, pictures and above all, their communities and support networks. They report a growing trend since June this year of accounts being banned arbitrarily, sometimes with no reason given, others being accused of breaches to terms of use. Many users have found it nearly impossible to appeal these decisions as there is no human contact available or willing to help. Some have even resorted to begging BBC journalists to help them get their account back. Some have been re-instated but others have not.
It is becoming ever more important we promote the #fediverse, tell others about it and provide help, support and tooling to maintain our own #digitalsovereignity on line.

YT has been shadow banning me ever since I commented a few times that Melon Husk was unstable after 2 nervous breakdowns, YT was inserting way too many adverts, and that bigotry is bad. Changed my short (@) and long channel names and all of a sudden people see and reply to my comments again :-)
GrayJay is being targeted by YT changes, but all I have to do is update YT Android app, close it, close and update GrayJay, and a couple of hours later it works fine again, ad-free* as the gods intended :-)
*I support my favourite channels via Patreon, Ko-fi etc.

I don’t understand the fuss about Anthropic's Claude training on user conversations. You can opt out if it bothers you. Even if training were off by default, It's wise to be cautious with any AI except @protonprivacy Lumo, which uses zero access encryption but is still at a nascent stage.

Interesting comparison:
Let‘s say #iOS 2.0 was year 1 of #UIKit. (We couldn‘t write apps for iOS 1.0, UIView is declared as available from iOS 2.0)
So the big redesign with iOS 7 was 6 years after the „introduction“ of UIKit.
#SwiftUI was introduced in 2019. We are now 6 years after the introduction of SwiftUI. And facing a huge redesign again.
But somehow UIKit felt much more mature when iOS 7 came around than SwiftUI does now.
